Series of free wildfire
workshops scheduled
To help area property owners protect
their homes from possible wildland fires,
FireCAP (Fire Citizens' Advisory Panel,
Inc.) and Bastrop Independent School
District have partnered again this fall to
present several free wildfire prepared-
ness workshops.
Creating defensible space around
properties or planting fire resistant land-
scaping are among the topics to be dis-
cussed. To find out about other wildfire
protection activities recommended for ho-
meowners, choose one of the workshops
sponsored though BISD's Fall Communi-
ty Education program. Each workshop is
an independent session, but will repeat
on six different evenings: Sept. 8, Sept.
22, Oct. 8, Oct. 13, Nov. 10, and Nov. 19.
All workshops will begin at 6:30 p.m. at
the Tahitian Village Fire Station.

A grass fire broke out in a field to the east of the Hunters Crossing subdivision in Bastrop Tuesday afternoon,
Fire crews had stopped the fire's forward progression by about 6 p.m. Firefighters responding to the fire
