COUNTY SCHOOL SUPERINTENDENT
The separate office of County Superintendent was created by
amendment to the School Law of 1876, and the establishment of the
office was left to the discretion of the Commissioners' Court.13
A County Superintendent is elected for a term of four years
in Texas counties having a scholastic population of 3,000 or more.l4
The County Superintendent advises the Board of Education (Board
of School Trustees) on the establishment and maintenance of common
schools and their educational policies, including rules and regulations
and prescribed courses of study. He prepares the annual
school budget for approval by the Board. The County Superintendent
submits annual reports to the State School Superintendent and
transmits rules and regulations of the State Department of Education
to the Board of Education and to school employees.l5
