1P WD grant goes to
Bastrop trails project
The Texas Parks and
Wildlife Commision
approved a $ 100,000 National
Recreational Trails Grant to
the Tali iuon Village water
district for the Lost Pines
Recreational Trails project in
Tahitian Village. Initiated
by Denise Rodgers of Rising
Phoenix Adventures and
Steve Box of Environmental
Stewardship, the announce-
ment came on the heels of a
recent award by LC RA of their
Community Development
Program grant for $25,000
that will be used to build
trails for disabled visitors on
the site.
The TPW funding of
the Lost Pines Recreational
Trails will help improve and
rehabilitate existing trails and
develop 1.7 miles of new hike
and bike trails on thirty acres
along the Colorado River.
The land is owned by the
water district and is adjacent
to the Colorado River Refuge,
currently being restored by
Pines & Prairies Land Trust.
Other improvements will
include installing fencing and
signage on Riverside Drive
and a picnic area and over-
look site. Electricity and
lighting will be ran to the site
with the help of Blue Bonnet
Electric Coop.
'"Our goal is to preserve
and restore river access points
for the enjoyment of residents
and visitors. We want people
to have places where they can
have a personal experience
with nature and the river. The
natural beauty and rural char-
acter are what entice people
to the Lost Pines Region and
inspire good stewardship,"
said project manager, Steve
Box.
'"Five or 10 years from
now we hope this area is a
destination for nature enthu-
siasts and mobility limited
individuals to hike, bike,
swim, observe wildlife and
enjoy the river. It will require
a lot of work and commit-
ment from the community,
but eventually, we hope it
will become a park with but-
terfly gardens, habitat resto-
ration, with park benches and
picnic sites," said Rodgers.

• For Students: The Federal Stafford Loan offers two options and provides quick
processing with no origination fees, competitive repayment options and incentives as
well as loan consolidation.
• The Subsidized Stafford Loan is awarded on the basis of financial need, and you
will not be charged interest while you are enrolled at least half-time hours in school.
• The Unsubsidized Stafford Loan is not awarded on the basis of financial need, and
you will be charged interest while in school. You may choose to pay the interest on
