PERSONNEL DEPARTMENT
The Personnel Department was established in November, 1975.
At that time, the Personnel Coordinator was removed from the
jurisdiction of the county auditor and made a separate department
head responsible to the Commissioners Court.1 The department
is responsible for interviewing applicants for county jobs and
maintaining appropriate records on present and past county employees.
COUNTY SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS
The separate office of County Superintendent of Schools was
created by amendment to the School Law of 1876, and the establishment
of the office was left to the discretion of the Commissioners'
Court.
A County Superintendent is elected for a term of four years
in Texas counties having a scholastic population of 3,000 or more.2
The County Superintendent advises the Board of Education (Board
of School Trustees) on the establishment and maintenance of common
schools and their educational policies, including rules and regulations
and prescribed courses of study. He prepares the annual
school budget for approval by the Board. The County Superintendent
submits annual reports to the State School Superintendent and

to the Board of Education and to school employees.3
