Flight training began January 7, 1957 with a new class entering every four weeks. The
first class of 78 enlisted men began a four week pre-flight training November 21, 1956 which will
be followed by 18 weeks of intense flight training. Upon graduation they will be transferred to
Fort Rucker, Alabama for final flight training.
The first class of the Army Aviator Helicopter Course began August 5,1957. The 40
students were all fixed-wing Army aviators and will receive ten weeks of primary and basic
helicopter flying The approved schedule is for two classes in training at any one time, plus five
classes undergoing training in the Army Aviator Transport Pilot Course during FY 1958.
ADMINISTRATION:
The Administration Department:
Under supervision of the Director of Administration. Responsible to the General
Manager
Maintained all accounting records of the contractor to include financial position,
cost and expenses of the contract.

DINING FACILITIES:
Operated seven dining facilities (Mess Halls with the capacity of 400 to 600.each.)
During the trainin priod 1968 through 1970 served in excess of 12,000 meals
per day.
For approximately two and one-half years, Southern Airways operated one dining
facility for Vietnamese Students. Serving a complete Vietnamese menu.
A native of Vietnam was hired to assist and instruct other employees in the
proper preparation of the food.
