CAPT. MICHAEL G. OLIVIER
WEATHER DETACHMENT COMMANDER
Air Force Captian. Michael G. Olivier was selected to command Fort Wolter's weather
station, Detachment 20, 16th Weather Squadron. He came to this assignment well qualified. He
was a graduate in atmospheric sciences of the Air Force's Institute of Technology at the
University of Washington and was a weather briefing officer to the Strategic Air Command (SAC)
headquarters at Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska for two years prior to that.
He was weather briefing officer for SAC's Second Air Force headquarters and served as
weather forecaster for Barksdale Air Force Base, Louisiana, in 1966
The art of weather forecasting has in the past century become a science. Today's
forecaster is a highly trained person who must blend the ancient art with today's modem science
in order to give a reasonably accurate weather forecast.
CAPT. Olivier received a bachelor of arts degree in astronomy from Louisiana State
University in 1964. He was commissioned a second lieutenant in the Air Force Officer Training
Program and studied basic meteorology at Texas A
