FOURTH UNITED STATES ARMY
TRAINING AIDS CENTER
On 21 October 1969 the Training Aids Division of the Office of the S-3 was organized as
a subelement of the Fourth U. S. Army Training Aids Center system (Provisional) and designated
Fourth United States Army Training Aids Center, Fort Wolters, Texas. This organization was in
accordance with General Orders Number 115, Headquarters Fourth U. S. Army, dated 29
October 1969.
The Fourth United States Army Training Aids Center, Fort Wolters, Texas, fabricated
8,530 item of direct training aids support to the USAPHC/S.
During this period major support has been in the area of Program Text, training devices
for American and Allied Learning Centers, and the training equipment required for the new
Academics building.
The Training Aids Division was located in building 200. They produced about 90% of the
training devices used in the Learning Center. Some of the helicopter training devices were the
result of" brain storming" between academemic and flying instructors. Mr. Julian, Training Aids
Center Director, was very talented in building an item requested just from a pencil drawing and an
explanation on what the device would be used for and expected results. His associate was Mr.
Joe Carter. Most of the training devices were built to teach the Vietnamese sensitivity required in
coordination between brain, hands and feet to fly a rotor wing aircraft.
