Obituary
Dorothy Daniels Taylor was the first
of two children born to Mr. & Mrs.
Qunion (Goldia) Daniels. Her
grandparents were Rev. and Mrs.
Wyatt (Matilda) Davis. She was born
in Schulenburg, Texas and moved
with herfamily to San Antonio, Texas.
She was christened when she was 2
months old at St. Paul United
Methodist Church. She grew up in
the Church and served faithfully in
various capacities; as a trustee;
financial secretary to the usher
board; chairman of parsonage
committee; secretary for the Women's
Society, a member of the Women's
Bible class; member of Seniors
division; and as an ardent supporter
of the church programs.
She received her formal education in
the public schools of San Antonio and
graduated from Douglass High
School. She attended St. Philip's
College. Her B.A. Degree was
attained at Sam Huston College and
while a student there she was
appointed as a student supervisor of
Junior Hall by the then president,
Karl Downs. She received her M.Ed
From Our Lady of the Lake
University and did further study at St.
Mary's University, Incarnate Word
College, and the University of Texas.
She utilized her training as a civil
service worker at Kelly Fieldfor four
years and as a very dedicated teacher
in the San Antonio Public Schools for
thirty years.
Dottye, as she was fondly referred to
by many, was a people person and
shared her concerns as a member of
the Douglass Alumnae, Huston
Tillotson Alumnae, Delta Sigma Theta
Sorority which she served as vice
president and secretary; Junior
Womens' Progressive Club; Les
Dames Charrmantes Charm and
Civic Club; Business and
Professional Womens' Club; life
member of the N.A.A.C.P. and
Association of College Women.
She was married to Levy Taylor in
1940. She was preceded in death by
her parents, her husband and her only
brother, James B. Daniels, Sr.
Her survivors include a nephew,
James Daniels, of Philadelphia, PA
and other relatives and friends.
