Dorothy, affectionately called "Aunt Dottie" by her nieces and neph-
ews, was born March 10, 1914 to the parenthood of Mr. George
Owens and Delia Eggleston Owens in Kerrville, Texas. Religious
training was an important factor in this family of devout Christians.
Church attendance and participation in activities were enforced
consistently. It was in the temple that Jesus first began to think of
the work he would do in the world. The desire to learn more about
God's purpose for us in life is attained by working in activities, at-
tending church school and membership in other church activities.
Dorothy accepted Christ at the early age of eight and was baptized
January 1,1923 at St. John Baptist Church, Beaumont, Texas.

She graduated from Charlton Pollard High School, Beaumont, Texas
with the honor of being the class essayist She attended St. Phillips
College, San Antonio, Texas and graduated from Tillotson College, now Huston-Tillotson Uni-
versity with a degree in Elementary Education. She continued her studies and completed her
Master's Degree at Texas Southern University. Post graduate courses were taken at Univer-
sity of California at Los Angeles, University of Texas in Austin, and Trinity University, San An-
tonio, Texas
She began her teaching career in the Austin School District. She taught at Rosewood Elemen-
tary School Austin, Texas, Dorie Miller School and Fannin School in San Antonio, Texas
She retired as principal of Ruiz School in San Antonio, Texas.
Dorothy joined Second Baptist Church in 1934 and maintained responsibilities with various
auxiliaries including where she served as President of the BYPU, Sunday school teacher, Presi-
dent of W M. U., the Hospitality Committee, member of the trustee, founder of the Willing
Workers Circle, the Rebecca Circle, director of the program for the scholarship affair and a
proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority
She was preceded by her parents and siblings, Geneva, Georgia, J.V., Mildred, Milton, Mae
Louise, and Joe; husbands, Aubrey Spriggs (1950) and Timothy Nicholson (1989)
She is survived by several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, many friends
among them are her special nurse, Joyce Edmondson, and her beloved friend Mrs Helen
