Obituary
Ms. Annie Marie Deese-Mitchell, after a brief illness, died suddenly at the age of 57.
She was beloved by all who knew her; especially her family. Her warm personality
shall be greatly missed by all.
Marie grew up in San Antonio and was a graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School .
She also attended San Antonio College and Howard University. Because of her
strong Christian family background, she was baptized at an early age and became
actively involved in Sunday School and the youth choir at Mt. Rose Baptist Church.
During her teen years, Marie was actively involved in many school activities and had
a strong passion for sports and sewing. In 1968, she entered a local pageant, "The
Queen of Soul "and was crowned Queen.
In 1969, She married Madison Mitchell Jr. and to that union was born one daughter;
Kimberly Michelle.
Marie had a tremendous gift with children and decided to enter the education field.
She served the San Antonio Independent School District since 1988 as an Educator
and worked with all levels of Special Education and Kindergarten students. In
addition to education, she also enjoyed working with people. To satisfy this passion,
she became a part-time customer service representative for North Park Lincoln
Mercury in San Antonio Texas. She was employed by both organizations at the time
of her sudden death.
As an avid sports enthusiast, her favorite pastime included watching the Dallas
Cowboys and San Antonio Spurs; especially when they won. She also enjoyed
baking scrumptious desserts, sewing, and watching old movies.
Marie Mitchell is survived by her parents Mr. Bennie Deese and Mrs. Janice Deese of
San Antonio; one daughter, Kimberly Mitchell-Riccardi, son-in-law, John Riccardi, two
grandchildren, Ashley and Anthony Riccardi, all of Austin, Texas; three (3)
sisters, Anna Galimore, San Antonio, Texas, Janet Gibson, Houston
Texas, Cherry Deese, San Antonio, Texas; two brothers, Donald and Cornell Deese,
both of San Antonio; sister-in-law, Kimberly Siels-Deese; and brother-in-laws,
Gregory Gibson, Sr. and James M. Galimore. She will be greatly missed by her five
(5) nieces, Tonya Thomas-Rhodes, Tina Thomas, Shavonne Deese, Quisiah Deese,
and Jasmyne McPherson; nine (9) nephews Gregory Gibson II, Gary Gibson, Gaylen
Gibson, Cornell Deese Jr., Christopher Deese, Donald Deese, Jr. Michael Deese,
Dimante Deese, Dimitri Deese, Diamond Deese; one nephew-in-law Franklin L.
Rhodes, and three great nieces; Jaylin, Jyla and Jovonnah Rhodes. She also leaves
to mourn three paternal uncles; Raymond Deese, San Antonio, Texas; Alvin Deese,
Luling, Texas and Robert Deese, Brooklyn, N.Y; maternal aunts; Ida Cleckley,
Virginia; Allaree Beverly, San Antonio, Texas, and Rita Knight, Oklahoma City ; Aunt
in-laws Alice Deese and Mary Deese; and a host of cousins, wonderful friends, and
co-workers.
