Obituary
Huengland (Hugh) Henderson was born to Austin Henderson and
Eleanor Hardeman on July 21, 1915 in Luling, Texas. He was the
fifth of nine children and was educated in the public schools of
Luling.
Hugh united with William Taylor Methodist Church at an early
age and became an active member.
He served his country proudly as a member of the United States
Army from November 7, 1942 until February 14, 1946. At the
time of his honorable discharge he had achieved the rank of Staff
Sergeant.
Following his military service, he was employed with the Southern
Pacific Railroad. He was a loyal and faithful employee for thirty-
five years. After moving to San Antonio, he became a member of
the St .Paul United Methodist Church. He was an active member
of the Usher Board and the United Methodist Men until his health
failed. He was also a member of the Beacon Light Lodge No. 50
F.&A.M. of the Masonic Lodge.
Hugh was united in marriage to Dorothy Bruce on June 13, 1961.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and four
sisters. He departed this life Thursday, September 18, 2003 at
San Antonio Convalescent Home.
He leaves to cherish fond memories his devoted wife of 42 years
Dorothy Henderson, one stepson, Oliver Bruce, Jr. ( Patricia), two
grandsons, three great grandchildren; three sisters, Helen Turner
of Luling, Texas, Nell Smith and Juanita Thomas of California;
two special nieces, Jeanette Cade (James) and Patricia Gist (Claude)
of San Antonio, one special nephew, Troy W. Roberts III (Laura)
of San Antonio, many great nieces and nephews and a host of
other relatives and friends.
