S.S. leviathan
New York to Cherbourg
Monday July 4, 1927.
Dear folks at home,We
are now nearly a thousand miles out from
New York and I have been a little seasick.
Hilda is having a rocky time of it, has missed t;
the-past four meals and keeps trying to vomit.
She says it feels like her toenails are trying
to eeme up.
Yesterday we had worship led ty several of
ministers in 3d class. I was asked to sing
a solo and I used the one I wrote,"Goc So loved"'
It was suitable to the service. A lot of people
looked awfully seasick an6 some had to leave
during the service to feed the fish.
This third class accommodation is not nearly
as good as the first class on the San Jacinto
from'New York to Galveston, but'I suppose if we
were travelling first class on this boat it
'would be much better than the San Jacinto. We
have a very small cabin for two, but there are
others who have atout as small a room for four.
We will cone back on this same boat and occupy
four-berth rooms, Hilda with three ,other girls
and I with three other men when we return from
SouthaRton to New York. Hilda is too sick
to 'go ud on 'deck and this little toom sis stuffy
and hot. If she could only manage to go up
on deck she could get freak air in ab-ndance.
She said if she had an elevator she could make.
But we have to climb 4 stairs to get on the
lowest deck.
We hav:
received about a dozen letters since
coming on board, among which yours was most
welcomed. So glad you are enjoying the stay
at Kerrville, and hope you can stay there even
more than a month. Get somebody else to milk
the cows and stay the entire summer.
