Sue John Fergus rushed In for
a card the nlghf of December 23.
"Are you ready for Christmas*
asked Review Publisher Hubert
Curry.
"No, but I've neyer known
them to postpone it far me yet,"
laughed the lady. They didn't
either, as events proved to the
rest of us who also weren't rea-
dy.

Eddie Cunningham was IK
town not long ago. He remarked
that hair was tougher in Fort
Worth. Heads are probablyhard-
er there.

Dee Collier was discussing
what kind of new car he might
possibly buy over at City Barber
Shop recently. His own had been
smashed in an accident and he
was thinking of trading.
Griffin Odom. Woodrow Ro-
bertson and others in the crowd
advocated various makes—Cad-
allacs. Ford, Pontiac, Chevrolet.
Buick. all were discussed at
length.
"By the way, what kind of car,
do you drive?" Dee turned and
asked us.
"Willys", we replied. Probably
not wanting to embarrass. Dee
turned and began speaking to
the others again without com-
-
ft ft ft
Anyway we rode that Willys
all the way to Okemah, Oklaho-
ma. during Christmas holidays.
• A person forgets how really
lousy Oklahoma roads are be-
tween trips. No serious wrecks
Ufke place there because a driv-
er can't get up enough speed to
hurt- himself,-unless he runs off
one of those narrow bridges.
Texas highway engineers must
shudder to see how Okie roads
are routed through towns. Right
of way must be in hands of
Chambers of Commerce; you
pass by every business in town.
Yet there are a lot of good
people in Oklahoma. They'd pro-
bably emigrate to Texas if, they
could find their way out. ' V
* ft ☆ ☆
Vivien and Leonard EUixon
have just bought a house whicn
belonged to one of Okemah's
leading bootleggers until his re
cent, sudden death.
Back yard of the place con
tains several grapevined arbors.
In the garage tool room sits a
winec press and several wats.
Not long ago, the Ellixon's
dog trotted on the porch with
bottle of whiskey In his mouth.
Nobody has been able to track
down the source.
We forgot to ask Leohard if he
opened it for the poor, thirsty
creature.
We also met a woman having
a difficult time getting her birth
certificate. All the records she
has been able to find were left
by her father.
She has narrowed her birth
down to 1901, 1902 or 1903 In
Arkansas or Missouri. You know
how men are about remembering
birthdays.

We picked up Christmas edi-
tion of the Wheeler Times and
discovered about two-thirds of
our December i8 Gambler'scrib-
bling* had been pirated, for the
Wheeler editor's front page col
umn.
He had changed our cat Seger
to his dog Lady. He had sub-
stituted Earl Brown, Wheeler
superintendent, for L. A. Garntr
Otherwise it was identical right
down to punctuation and capi
talization.
Other papers have picked up
our moonshine but they always
settled credit /or blame) where
it was due. This Wheeler dealer
just let the customers think it
was him.
We want to compliment the
fellow on his good taste in se
lecting our column to hook. If
he ever breaks into .a jewelry
store, he'll probably steal only
the genuine gems. ,
Now we're wondering where
he jot, the rest of the stuff in his
paper. ■*' ~T '
