Funds Secured For The Purpose Of Building a $10,000.00 School Building For Crosbyton.
Building Will Be Under Construction In 20 Days-Nothing Too Big For Us
(. W
PflSa
It has only been a few weeks
since we announced on this page
of the Review that Crosbyton
had voted an Independent School
District, and had done it without
a desenting vote. This fact
spoke great for our communiy
and we had many kind press
mentions for our energy, and
(standing together on things of
this nature. It was last Thurs-
day week that wje were informed
that our valuations- were too
small to vote a $10,000.00 bond
on the district, and it was up to
us to begin work on the School
- barlding^-we-^erer t^
ready for the next term. What
was to be done? Was a question
being £sked by every person that
had acquainted himself with the
situation. We got together the
happy band of boosters, for Cros-
byton and Crosby, and they soon
"had a scheme up in the air that
has resulted in the securing of
the funds for building the $10,-
" 000.00 school building.
The Dlan was easy and as soon
as it was agreed upon, it was
discussed as.to.who would go to
the money center and secure the
cash, this was placed on thf
shoulders of our good natured
and hustling citizen, Julian/, M.
Bassett, and on Sunday "Tie left
for Chicago, and at 12:27 m.
Saturday we received the tele-
gram, that the funds had been
arranged for. The news was
soon SDread ov«r the town and
the citizens were seen out con-
gratulating each other in the
matter, Nothing would do us as
much good as educational facili-
ties, and we are on the road to
become the educational center of
the South Plains.
The erection of this $10,000 00
•school building will be under way
in the next twenty days, and will
be pushed with all possible,
rapidity.
The material in the building
will be a Crosby county product,
out of the famous Blanco Canon,
and will be manufactured into
buiWtTgnmHWia] in Crosbyton,
and placed in/the walls by citizens
of Crosby county.
It has been agreed upon that
the entire work so far as pos-
sible will be done by the people
of Crosby county including the
farmers and mechanics, as well
as all others. In this way there
wijl be aboi^t $5,000.00 paid out
of this fund to citizens of Crnaby
county Which means a great deal
to the community. The hauling
of something like a thousand
loads of sand and as many more
of gravel and stone means much
the fact that her citizens are the
kind that stand shoulder to
shoulder,- with few exceptions,
and they get their heads to-
gether, so to speak, and discuss
measures and means by which
things can be done and its al-
-ways a go when citizpna do th
things. It has been said by
visitors in Crosbyton that it has
the biggest hearted set of people,
and. people that do things the
best, and come the nearest doing
all they claim than any town
ever noted. We propose to make
this saying good.
" Tri conversation with Mr. G.
W. Worrelf, of Cone, last Satur-
day, he informs us that he will
move to his farm three mfles
west of Crosbyton. and that he
