How do you portray 23 years of a
man's life in a few pages in a magazine?
Not without difficulty if that man is Thomas K. Kim,
a man whose multi-faceted performance as president of
McMurry University resulted in an unprecedented 18
consecutive years of balanced budgets, non-scholarship
athletics, a student-appointed nickname of "Dad," his
naming as one of Abilene's most influential men in a
citywide poll, and many national honors including
president of the Division of Higher Education of the
United Methodist Church, and the U.S. Air Force's
Citizen of the Year award. The list of accomplishments
and honors could go on and on and on.
•
In the pages that follow, we will attempt to sketch a
picture of President Kim's 23-year career, a picture
that can only be truly understood if begun with an
account of his early years in war-torn Korea and China
.. .then continuing from varying viewpoints through a
smattering of photos, newspaper editorials and
articles written by both McMurry students and
professional journalists.
•
One thing is not difficult to portray -
McMurry University is better because of him.
And we offer our thanks.
