Dub and Ruth (Wilhite) Rhodes
of Clarksville, (cl. of '41 and '42
respectively) are advertising Mc-
Murry in East Texas. Because of
their enthusiasm, McMurry has a
freshman student from there.
Louise (Lohn) Fry, ('39) has a
new daughter; she also has two
boys, Louise's husband owns the
McMurry Grocery right off the
campus.
Neil Daniel, ('39) opened his
law of ice as of October 1. He has
been District Clerk here for the
past eight years.
R. J. Bell C36-'39) owns the
Bell Cafe in Spur, Texas.
Terry (Reynolds, '37-'38), and
"Kentucky" Smith, ('37-'40),
were on the campus a few days
ago. "Kentucky" is a Tech Sgt.
in the Marines and has been
transferred t o Camp Lejune,
South Carolina.
Bob and Annette (Lewis)
Owens, C46-'50) are doing grad-
uate work in the Law School at
the University of Texas. He was
recently discharged from the
Army.
Johnny and Gloria (Novak)
Jones (cl. of '49 and '50 respective-
ly) are at home again at 3126
Fulton. Johnny was discharged
from the army this past summer.
They have one son.
Hoyt and Sue (Holcomb) Cole
(cl. of '49 and '50 respectively)
are the proud parents of a daugh-
ter. They are now in Austin
where Hoyt is attending Law
School.
Bryan Mahon (cl. of '48) has a
very attractive men's clothing
store in San Angelo.
Dr. Ford Allen (cl. of '37) is a
dentist in Corpus Christi, Texas.
He and his wife have two chil-
dren.
Edna Earl Arnold, (cl. of '49),
and John B. Hendsbee, are living
at 4335 Cunningham Drive in
Wichita Falls, Texas. John is
manager of the Remington Rand
Office, and Edna is secretary to
a Wichita Falls lawyer.
Mary Evelyn (Brooks) Rees,
('28-'30) has been in Oslo, Nor-
way, for the past three years. She
and her husband, Brig. Gen. C. H.
Rees, are back in the states now,
and their address is HQ CABF,
Grandview A F B , Grandview,
Missouri.
On a lecture tour in Kansas
during the first week in August,
Prof. George Steinman reports
having had a former McMurry
student in his class at Kansas
Wesleyan University, S a 1 i n a ,
Kansas, who said she came to the
School of Missions to "see some-
one from McMurry." She was
Charlotte Hunter while in Mc-
Murry, 1936-38. She is now mar-
ried to J. F. Duffy who is an M.
D. in Anthony, Kansas, and they
have two children. She hopes to
get back to Homecoming to see
the many changes that she hears
have taken place since her stu-
dent days.
Among the Marine Corps sec-
ond lieutenants completing the
five-month officers' basic course
at Quantico, Va., recently was
William L. Ehrle, (cl. of '53). He
has been assigned to Force
Troops, Fleet Marine Force Paci-
fic at Twenty-nine Palms, Cali-
fornia.
Joyce Nell Adkins and Sam
Turner, former Indian of 1948-49,
were married in the Rule Metho-
dist Church on August 29.
June Lowrey, (cl. of '53) is
teaching commercial subjects in
the high school at Knox City. Her
.sister, Marguerite (Mrs. Joe
Clonts), (cl. of '49) is teaching
the sixth and seventh grades at
O'Brien.
EXES GATHER AT DALLAS
At the annual high school
coaches' school in Dallas, the sec-
ond week in August, a reunion
of many ex-Indian-gridders met
for dinner at the Century Room
of the Adolphus Hotel. Among
those present were: Dillard Adair,
Bob Reily, and Floyd Sampson
of Colorado City; Bill (Duke)
Ellington and Hershel (Birddog)
Kimbrell of Garland; Doug Cox
and Dick Richey of Ballinger;
Mel Jowell and Julian Pressly of
Odessa; R. M. Patterson of Tem-
ple; Vernon Townsend of Ham-
lin; Steamboat Jones of Rankin;
Les Cowan of Knox City; Lynn
Glass of Rochelle; Otis Holladav
of White Deer; Frontz Myatt of
Beaumont; Bob Carter of Fort
Stockton; Claude Morrison of
Enochs; Pete Wilson of Aber-
nathy; Grady Baker of Bronte;
Tom Morris of Sam Houston of
San Antonio; Raymon Bynum of
Richardson; Rudy Haile of Lock-
ney; Tommy Ellis of Merkel;
Buddy Dulin of Albany; and Bill
Holmes, ex Indian Publicity Di-
rector, now with Texas Tech.
Bob and Averil Martin, Abilene. Bob is vice-president of our
Aumni Association and is presenting many good ideas. Bob and
Averil still are owners of the McMurry Drug right across the street
from th<* campus.
Mary Ruth Dennis, a 1954 grad-
uate of McMurry, is teaching at
Stephenville. She is directing
physical education in the high
school.
Elizabeth Willis, (cl. of '48), is
the associate director of the Wes-
ley Foundation at Purdue Uni-
versity. She served as president of
the Texas Methodist Student
Movement, 1947-48; attended the
council of the National Confer-
ence of Methodist Youth in 1947
and 1950, and attended European
work camps during the summers
of 1951 and 1953.
Jean Tracy of Sweetwater, who
attended McMurry in 1952-53,
married Lt. Clayton Hendley,
Jr., on June 23, at Lometa. They
are living in Belleville, 111., where
Lt. Hendley is stationed at Scott
Air Force Base.
Mary Sue Boren, Snyder, who
attended McMurry in 1953-54,
was married to Charles A. Le-
Blanc recently. The couple arc
at home at 2112 Thirtieth Street,
Snyder.
Preston C. Lightfoot, cl. of '28,
has been cited as one of the out-
standing men of the Great South -
west Life Insurance Company, it
was reported recently. Mr. Light-
foot, formerly principal of the
Newman High School, Sweet-
water, has been highly praised for
his work in rehabilitating and
training the returning G.I.'s after
the end of World War II. He not
only aided the veterans in his
professional role, but in his leis-
ure time he hunted jobs for the
men who were coming home. He
has had some twenty-five years
in the field of education.
We have had a letter from the
Mel Jowells, now living in
Odessa, that "little brother" Carl
is in Seoul, Korea, now—"rather
homesick but finding the people
very interesting." The Jowell
tradition in McMurry is being
carried on by another brother,
Jim, who is in his senior year.
Mrs. A. G. (Sue Duval) Barnard,
(cl. of '40), was on the campus last
week with her two children,
Susan, aged three years, and Al-
lan, almost two years. She and
her family have been living in
Odessa for about four years.
The Stanley Seatons (Mildred
Doyle) of the class of '51 paid us
a visit this summer. Their two
children, Doyle and Cherry, were
with them, and we can say with-
out reservation, that they have
that Seaton personality.
Caffey Welch has recently been
elected to the position of County
Superintendent of Schools at
Sweetwater. He was a graduate
student at McMurry in 1953.
We have a letter from Mrs.
Peggy (Bodine) Ratliff telling us
