tal low-rent housing project
Similar housing projects a r e
underway all over the U S. One
was jus- completed at Lockhart
ind another is soon to start at
Smithville.
To qualify for renting such an
apartment, a family must be in
the low-income bracket. Further
details will be given in the near
future as soon as the si'es are
selected and contracts are iet.

Mrs. Wiley Is
Candidate For
Commissioner
Mrs R M. (Wilma) Wiley is
announcing this week that she
will he a candidate for the office
of Commissioner of Precinct No. 1
of Bastrop County, subject to act-
ion of the Democratic Primary
election in May.
Mrs Wiley is seeking to fill
the position so ably handled for
a number of years by her hus-
band. the late R. M. Wiley, until
: ins death in December of 1964.
She sj ent much of her time work-
ing with mm and for him, under
Ins supervision, nd during his
hist illness, she assumed full re-
sponsibillty for his work. She per-
sonally handled several right-of-
w iy purchases a n d supervised
th< road maintenance and build-
ing of culverts, attending to the
buying of necessary materials
herself.
She expressed her appreciation
to her many friends for the pe-
tition they submitted requesting
that she be appointed to fill Mr.
Wiley's unexpired term, and for
their calls and letters in her
behalf.
The former Miss Wilma Es-
kew. Mrs. Wiley was manager of
the Camp Swift Exchange during
World War II and until the camp
closed. She then opened and oper-
ated The Little Grill, popular lo-
cal eating place, until she sold
it. when she and Mr. Wiley were
pa-t owners of the East End Gpv
eery for a number of years. They
later sc-'.l ths'ir nt to
and Mrs Vernon Eskew. East
End's present owners She has a
son Bib Wiley, member of the
Ci'y P" • Department in Lock-
hart. where he lives with his
family.
With her background of busi-
ness experience and the training
and -xpt-t iencc given her by Mr.
Wiley Mrs Wiley feels well quali-
fier to serve the people '.ii this
i capacity, and sin will devote her
full time to doing the best job
possible
