Religious Survey
To Be Made By
J
Baptist Church
I he First Baptist Church will
begin .i religious survey of the
city of Bastrop and the sur-
rounding area this Sunday, Feb-
ruary 2ii. Volunteer workers
from :l.e church will meet at
2:'H) n. in. for instruction and
will be^in the survey itself at
,'!:00 p m.
"A regular survey of the com-
munity is of great importance
to a church." according to the
Rev K L. Elliott, pastor of the
church. "Families often missed
in one ifii-us will be discovered
in another. There i.- also some
shift in the population. Some
people move to town, escaping
the notice of many of the citi-
zens and sometimes the church."
T i survey i.- being conduct-
ed ii. i unnection with an enlarge-
ment effort being put forth by
the church. Recently a new ed-
ucational building was complet-
ed as a part of the same pro-
ject. "Our desire is not to bo
a large church for numbers
sake," sa id Bro. Elliott, "but ra-
ther, to discover and reach ev-
eryone in Bastrop to whom it
is our duty and privilege to
minister. This cannot be sat-
isfactorily done without an ac-
curate survey."
Citizen.* are advised that those
participating in the census will
use only a few moments of their
time and that it will be great-
ly appreciated if they will give
all the information requested.
The survey is to be complet-
ed on Sunday afternoon, March
| >th.
Sacred Heart
Men's Club Meets
The Saci\ ! H -art Men's club
i held their regular monthly meet-
ing Feb. 9, l'.Mil in the parish
hall. Twelve members answered
the roll call. During the business
session plans for erecting a sign
showing the name of the church
and schedule of the Masses were
discussed. It was decided that
the best site for the sign would
be in the vicinity of the inter-
section of state highways 71
and '.hi Walter B'rinkman then
gave a report on the sign he
contructed and placed on the
church lawn to replace the one
which fell into ill repair.
Father Louis Wozniak, moder-
ator of the organization, read
a letter from Edwin D Gunter,
state executive of the Knights
of Columbus, Austin, which ask-
ed if parish units .if the Boy-
Scout program could bo organiz-
ed. It was generally felt hy the
members that thi- plan would
not be feasible because of an
insufficient number of boys in
the parish and recommended
that interested hoy- would best
join the existing Scout units in
Bastrop. After closing the meet
ing with a prayer, a pre Lenten
social with refreshments, domino
and card game- was enjoyed by-
all present.
The Sacred Heart Men's club
was organized in early Decem-
ber. l! i>0, for the purpose of
activating "pr ish" interest on
both a -pirtual and physical level.
Officers elected are as follows:
President, Monroe Wilhelm; Vice
President, Richard Blazek: Sec-
retary-Treasurer. I.oui-t Linen-
berger. Rudolph Potter and Ben
Hciinckc were appointed a.- spir
tual and social chairmen, re
peotively.
