fects and Arthritis, to fill the

Mr. Sander , who has beer, .n-
tive in Youth Organization work,
the First Methodist Church and

th. responsibilities of his office

day, J. L. (Jimmy) Nutt pin
tied on his shiny new badge of
sheriff if Bastrop County.
Karlier his bond had been ap
proved and oath of office admin-
istered by Judge Henry Sebe.-ta.
Sheriff Nutt succeeds I. R.
Hoskins who was elected in 1952
and again in 1956.
Nutt took over his new post
with a veteran's knowledge of
law enforcement in the area. He
served as chief of police at
Smithville for the pa-t three
years and was chief deputy
-beriff for 20 months. A World
War II veteran of the F.uropean
Theatre of Operations, Nutt was
attached to the provost marshal!
office at Camp Swift after his
return from overseas service with
the Cavalry Reconnaissance Com
pany of the 10th Mountain In
fantry Division.
Sheriff Nutt grew up on a
ranch, was a rodeo contestant
in hi< younger days, ami stil!
lists calf roping as his top
hobby.
He i.~ married and has four
children — three boy.- and a
girl.
In taking office the new she-
riff announced the appointment
of Hall Tarver of Bastrop as
his chief deputy. Tarver held
the post for the past five years
under Sheriff Hoskins.
Sheriff Nutt also announced
that Klgin Deputv Ray Pfieffer
and Deputy Teddy Hoffman at
Smithvi le wii' continut in their
posts.
