Be A Good Party-Line Neighbor
If you are sharing telephone er\ice with others on a
party line you will no doubt be interested in a suggestion that
will help make that service better. \ on know, of course, that
when one of the parties is using the line, others cannot make
a call. If this happens regularly or for prolonged periods it ia
annoying and may present others from making emergency
calls when necessary. Perhaps you have experienced such a
condition and know first hind how annoying it is.
To help prevent this situation t -our party line, I would
like to point out how each can co «.;>era'e in keeping the line
available for use. These following simple rides—all easy to
follow—will do the job.
I. Make your calls brief—lony conversations tit up the
line and are unfair to others who are waiting to
place call*.
2: Space your calls well apart, so others can use the
line.
If you find the line in use when you start to place
a call, hang up r 'ntly and try again in a few
minutes.
1. terminate conversation promptly if someone else
wants to make an emergency call.
a. Make as many of your calls as possible during leas
busy hours.
ti. Do nol remove the receiver from the hook except
to make or receive calls, and be sure to hang up the
receiver as soon as your conversation is completed.
It is a good idea to check up on your receiver now
and then, especially if there are children in your
house.
7. Make certain that children do not play with the
telephone.
adults regularly use, and they love to play adults parts and
adults regularly use, an dthey love to play adults parts and
do what tin adult does. Since the telephone is so much a part
ot the adult life which they observe, children often love to
"plat telephone" and sometimes use the real telephone to
play with.
The problem of restraining the children in their perfectly-
natural desire to play with the telephone, is often not an easy
one. However, we are sure that v on will understand the im
port a nee of keeping the line available for the people who are
railing your telephone and for the use of others on the line.
If these suggestions are always observed your party line
service will he greatly improved. For this reason i should ap-
preciate it if you would have all of the members of your house-
hold read this article, so that they may help in protecting the
service on your party line.
