Tillye Elzner, at the latter younR
ladies home, Wednesday ;ast. was
the society function of the week.
Miss Nash was showered with
many pretty and costly pieces of
linen, and each piece, in future
use will always remind her of
this most pleasant afternoon.
At 3 p.m. when the guests hao
all arrived, and after several
pleasant "tete-a-tetes" instrument-
al and vocal selections, the bride
elect and guests marched to the
adjoining drawing room, to Men-
delssohn's wedding march bein^
rendered by Miss Ellena Edmon Is,
where the shower took place. After
which the guests were invited to
the dininf room, where the wed-
ding cake was cut and refresh-
ments served. The dining room
was beautifully draped in white
and pink, brilliantly illuminated
with vax candles, each support-
inc a pretty pink shade. On en-
tering the dining room the guests
were given their place cards, a
pretty hand painted card, with a
wild rose displayed on them.
On the center table was the
beautiful wedding cake and Miss
Edmonds was first to step for-
ward and try her luck for the
future. The ring fell to Miss
Belle Osborn, the dime to Miss
Elzner and the thimble to the
bride elect. The guests were seat-
ed at the various tables and re-
freshments were served consist-
ing of chicken salad, olives, crack-
ers, frozen punch, wafers and
angel food cake.

THE SOCIAL WORLD
The progressive '42 party given
by Misses Vesta and Beauluh
Craft, their home, Monday
evening of this week, was cne oi
the most enjoyable functions at-
tended by the voung society peo-
ple of Bastrop during the holidays.
Between 8:30 and nine o'clock
the guests had all arrived and
after a few pleasant "Chats" the
game of '42 was soon under way
and the light tables were filled
with eager contestants to win the
~rand prizes, which were indeed
beautiful and worth striving for.
At the close <>f the eighth game,
Miss Mary R. Higgins had succeed-
ed in capturing the ladies prize
a letter blotter with sterling silvei
handle, and Messr's Alvin Brown
and J. C. Mosby tied for the gen-
tlemen's prize, each having won
seven out of the eight games. The
gentleman's prize was a beautiful
sterling silver letter opener. In
the draw, Mr. Mosby was the
fortunate one, turning double six
After the contests had been
decided, several selections, both
vocal and instrumental, were en-
joyed, after which followed three
courses of lovely refreshments.
The tables were relievd of their
burden, the dominoes, but were
soon laden with something much
better. The first course consisted of
chicken salad, served in apple
cups, olives, crackers, and cheese
squares with English walnuts. The
second course was ambrosia served
with iced blocked cakes and the
last course consisted of hot choco-
late and fruit cake.
After another musical program
the guests departed for their
homes, extending many thanks to
the charming hostesses for such
a delightful evening.
