thatif a writer wishes to describe land-
scape scenery, he perpetrates great folly
in trying to view it with a pretty woman
by his side. So sweet .was the flow of
the words of the enchantress—so clear,
so exquisite the bb'e of her speaking eyes,

tive grandeur, had by magic risen at our
feet, its "glories would have been unseen,

which the store-house of memory fur-
nishes us no key. Some miserable mar-

The Bis Brook Trout.—The Clean.
Advertiser and the New York Spirit of
the Times are at-loggerheads in relation
to the Weight ?,nu dimensions of a trout,
described in the latter paper, by some
person connected with the'Astor House.

of his boyhood, caught in Little River,
Georgia, a fish of the same specie?,

Hostilities between the U. States
axd Germany.—The Gonzales Inquirer
gives an account of a shooting affair between
an American and a German. The American
sovght one of the Germans and threatened
to'kill him. T e latter and a fellow coun-
trymen procured shot guns, loaded with

was "ceding, from behind a tree, and buried

discharges. The fugitive was armed with a
