conviction thereof, by Cue of not less than two
nor more than twenty dollars ; and the Mayor or
Recorder, as the case may be, are to commit the
party or parties so offending, to the county jail, nn-

party or parties so offending be a slave or slavc3,
he, she, or they, shall receive twenty-five lashes
npon the bare back, unless the owner or owners
thereof shall come forward and pay the fine and
costs, in which case, such slave or slaves shall be
discharged, and in each case, where said slave or
slaves shaU be punished by whipping, as afotesaid,
tbe Marshal shall receive the sum of one dollar
'from tbe City Treasurer, for each and every inch

careful, experienced and attentive, ami neither pains
nor expense will be spared to render travelers com-
fortable on the various routes.
