We h«v« been (here and are back

the steamer Laura, and after a four
days trip we arrivtdut Sabine Pass.
We found the Pass very lively—
five stcamOoats being in port be
aides several schooners and the
wharves full of cotton. Of course
the niorchants were in a good hu'

We met many men from every

we will cease for the present.
Alter a stay of four days iu the

We hear a great deal of com-
plaint among our mercnonts aud
planters in recard to the enormous
charges at Sabine Pas3. We think
the complaint is just. For wo can
see no reason for putting the
charges up to fifty -cents specie tor
forwardiug a bale of cotton. The
merchants at the Pass don't pay
one cent lor labor ; the boats put
it on the wharves, and the sclioon*
er's meu lake it off. It i unjust,
and instead of helping to build up
the Pass, it is just the thing to drive
tho trade away. Our people have
been in the habit of shipping
through to Bonn's, aud the nier
chants of the Puss cried aloud
against tbe through line. JVbsoon*
er ihad they ceased the through
line titan dp they pop chargns to
nearly double. Well, it is not our
town. b«t we wofiii warn-the mer-
chants of the Pass to go back or
they will ioa6 the whole trade of
east Texas.. Wo have already
heard several merchants, say the?
ordered their i goods (shipped
through to Bunn's.
