'Wo regret exceedingly that
we have been unable to procure the
speech of Col. A M. Hobby, deliv-
ered at the opening of our Fair.—
Our duty as Secretary of the Asso'
ciation kept us employed during
the entire time he was speaking,
consequently we could not even
note it. We learn that there is a
copy in town, but fioin some cause
we cannot net it.
Died At his reside nee in this
county on the 8th day of Oc', of Pur'
alises, Mr. K. K. llatcliff, aged 53.
C. E. Broussard & u wholesale
Dealers in clothing, hud the pret>
tieat eloihiug at our Fair.
nsu We were mort.lied to learn
on Sunday before last, that many ol
our good ineihodist 'friends, and
among thein, Parson Watkina hiui
self has bjen nuder the impression
for a whole year, that a selected
piece published iu this paper "Fare
well %other Wuikins," was writ-
ten by us, and intended as a buries
quo upon him. We sincerely re-
gret that we did not find out soon
er that such an impression was out
for it was far from our intention,
and it never occured to us that the
same name wa used. The picco in
question has been going the roniidg
iu the papers for twelve years to
our certain knowledge, and tho |5er.
son who marked it and sent it to
Mr. Watkin, saying it was written
by us as a burlesque on hiin, is sim-
ply a fool. W'o belong to no church
have no choice af the many denonv
inations, arecontroled by none, but
at tho sa;ro lime no one is a strong
cr advocate ol religion, or is willing
to do more tor the advancements
of all churohrs than us. And
it would iudecd be rcdiculous, and
beneath the honor of a gentleman
to write and publish a burlesque ou
a denomination or its preacher who
has been among our warmest sup,
porters.
We publish this nor for aa apol
igy, but simply to correct an erro-
neous impression in regard to
the matter, and are indeed sorry
that it did not come io our kuowli
ede sooner.
"Now the Fair is over we in>
tend to devote our whole time to
the Bpy, and make it every thing
that it should be u first class Fami
ly paper, that qo man i;i the Four
oountis nan do with out.
Mr The fair turned out a perfect
success, infact, far more so than the
most sanguine had a right to expect-
il being the first and all being green
and new itt t ie Fair business.« The
great value it will be to this and
surrounding countiis, in arousing
(he energies of the people ie (bo
great to talk about now, as it has
already begin to s)io^r itself in va-
riouu aud many ways. The Associ-
ation went to a great deal of ex<
pease, but when taken unto ennsid'
eration that every thing frflin A to
Z had to be purchased and built this
tune aud tlipt only 5 per cent of the
capital stock has ever been called
in and it has enough money on hand
to pa} its liabilities, witout calling
for any rtiorefrotn the Hock holders,
it is indeed gratifying land proves
to us beyond a doubt that the sec
ond annual Fair of the Association
will be a Fuir what am a Fair."

/1 is as easy to be a good inan as
a poor one. Half the energy dis-
played in keeping abead that is re-
quired to catch up when behind,
would have credit, give more time
to atteud to business, and add to
the profit and reputation of those
who work for gain. Bo prompt;

promise to meet a man, or do a
certain thing at a certain moment
be ready at the appointed time. If
you go out on business attend
promptly to your own business
hours. If you l ave a place of bus
iness, be there when wanted. No
man can get rich by sitting around
stores and saloons. Never "fool1'
on business matters. Have order,
system, regularity and promptness.
Do not meddle with business you
know uothing of. JVevcr buy an
article you do not need, simply be-
cause it is cheap aud the man who
sells will take it out in trade.
V'rado it money. Strive to avoid
harsh words and personalities- Do
