to-day at 2 p. m. Elaborate pre-
parations have been made for the
reception and entertainment of dele-
gates, and a royal good time is con
fidently expected.

Clark Gaines, can easily write off
forty years and put on tho charms of
a widow on the sunny side. The
decree is for 81,926,007, with 6 por
cent, interest till paid, and costs.
But as it is only the judgment of

payment will probably be delayed
till the supreme tribunal can pass
upon it, and therefore tho vivacious
little woman may hare to post-pone

per hoad. In Mississippi about 2,000
head havo been bought at the same
figure. "!Tho cattle are in good thriv-
ing order, and will bo put on the
range as rapidly as possible. Tbe
McGlellan Oattlo company has a
ranch of over 200,000 acros on tho
Cherokee strip, Indian Territory,
and will have on it 80,000 head ol
stock the present season. Heavy
shipments of stock will be made
from this point to the bordor of the
Indian Territory and the Texas Pan-
handle within tho nfext few days by
different parties, tho intention being
to have all tho entile on the trail
before May 20.

The New York dispatches that
say "southern advices say cotton is
being planted for an 8,000,000 bale
crop," show to what extent specu-
lators will work the tricks of their
trade to affect prices. This is
purely and simply a wall street and
cotton brokers bear movement. It
can have no foundation in ascertained
# data, and tbe dispatches even state
that tbe "advices" are not "credited,"
It is nevertheless a fact that in-
creased acreage is being planted in
Texas, but this arises from the in-
creased acreage put into cultivation
by newly arrived immigrants. Tbe
planters who planted last year are
not increasing their acreage to any
great extent, and those who are
making the Increase are mostly from
