Friend Watchman :
I have long desired, to let you
Inow how ve enjoy the rural pleasures
of country life. Our prairie home is
delightful. Cold, clear spriug water
flowing under the dark, green foliage
of overhanging; boughs, seems to in- j
▼ite to a retreehuieut fur richer than ,
ever appeared in the gaudy saloon.— j
Kiting from the spring to the summit;
of .that beatiful mound adjacent, there j
bland* our hamblp home. True
it b not a mansion, jet in qpietude
and peace we dwell there. 1 l e freel*>
man's bureau never exercised more
dominion than we do here. Our
view m almost unlimited. Herds of
hones and cattle feeding in quietude
io every direction on the rich pastu.
rage that literally covers the earth,
dewberries and mulberries abundant,
haw* and grapes promise a Am har-
vest next fall. We have a Sue gar-
den, chicken^ goblin? and turkies
plentiful, milk and batter in abun-
dance. We read the Bible and reli*
^ious papers, baye as little to do with
politics as possible, paj pt*r tax and
ub y the aw. We have room for
several others of the same sentiment.

Editors Georgetown Watchman :
Baying for more than twenty year*
been a resident of your State, and
still regarding it as my permanent
home, by jour permission, 1 will
tay through the eolumns of your pa
l<er, to the cattle raisers, and espe-
cially drovers, that the laws res-
pecting the driving of Texas cattle in-
to Kaunas, and Missouri, have been
rendered more stringent than they
were last year, notwithstanding the
contrary statements going the ronndsof
the press. The present laws are such
as to virtually bar {he Texas cattle at
all seasons of the year except upon
such conditions as are difficult to com-
ply with, my opinion is, however; that
if drovers nd dealers in this line will
strictly comply with the requirements
of the laws regelating these things
they will eventually see a better day
B«t fpr prettp|t% e measures resorted
to last year by men of b->th partus
the Texas ca'tle would h& e more fa-
vor with the people now. Thongh at
it now is there is a growing interest
io its favor as to more immediate
prospects manv are confident that
the Kansas city snd Galveston Rail
lioad will be completed to this point
by the 15th of Oetober next, in fact
this is the promise pf (hf R. R. com*
pany to Cattle Dealers. As to #tne
certainty ot the completion of the
Ruad to thib line by the time men>
tioned we can't say. If completed we
presume it will furnish ample facilU
ties for the transportation of all the
cattle that may accumulate here.—
as a suggestion to Texas drovers. It
m^y be best, at least, will be safest
for those who drive to this, point late
in the season, to provide for feeding
their cattle over in the event that the
JUil Road should not be completed.—
Otherwise they must be lefi to the
mercy of the merciless speculators.—
In reference to R. Road in question,
they are workiog it vigorously above,
but are meeting with considerable
opposition by some ot the settlers of
the Neutral Lands. It is credited
here that a few days ago the surveyors
of the R* Road within a few miles of
thia place had this* wagons and con-
tents burned and they went off on
double qoiftk. The president of the
Road just left h$re and it is
that he, when getting up there foifod
it most congenial to facilitate his
speed. They may fight the battle but
yeaoe wifl succeed. And when those
