The Fort Worth Democrat last
week published a commnuicu
tion from Coleman City, in which
reference is made to a recent in-
terview had by the Democrat's
correspondent with Jttdge Flem-
ing, in the course of which lie
remarked, that as soon as the
j udicial tour which he is now on
shall be completed lie will re-
sign his position on the bench.
This would seem to be au-
thoritative as to his decision to
retire from the judgeship of this
district. Of this decision on the
part of Judge Fleming we had
previously been advised, but not
directly, norig a manner Jnsti-
ring a rerance to it in our
olumns. Am particularly did
we refrain from Such Reference
in the hope that it mighf.| t be
true "in substance and in fact,"
while such publication as au-
thoritative would tend to pre-
vent the reconsideration by hi&
of such decision.
It will be difficult to. select a
successor to Judge Fleming who
will be as thoroughly and uni-
versally acceptable to our people
as be has been. • .v
SimuUjyjjj^ig'^with.the offer-
of, his resignation, Judge
Fleming will, a$ we ore in
formed, give publicly to the peo
pie of the Twelfth, j udicial dis-
trict his reasons for declining to
farther serve them in his pres-
eri't capacity.

inaugurate tv great east find west

the re6%hhization of the artny,
of which General • Joseplr E.
