• 4-A special session of the
bounty Commissioners Court
was held last week for the pur-
pose of taking action on the
petition of citizena of Th rock
morton county, to enable them
o organize the county. A re
monstrance was also presented,
supported by affidavit made by
a citizen of this county, setting
forth that the county does not
contain the requisi te h um her
ufboiia-fidn citiiens to entitle it
to irti oiganization. The matter
will be brought up again at the
next meeting of the court at
which time the petitioners pro-
pose to show by affidavits that
they have mo^e than, the num-
ber required by law. : / ;\ '
Iris our opinion the retnon-
strators made a bad move and
we fear their action may result
in a bad feeling between the two
counties, but our neighbors
must not conclude that the ac
lion of a few men in Shackel-
ford connty is endorsed by the
majority for such is not the
fact. ■ t
—Lie'nt. J. C. Ord^ U. <S. A.,
and Mr. Hickenlooper, paymas-
ter cleric, arrived at the Port;
Saturday last. The officers and
men stationed there were paid
ofi and on Monday the gentle-
men departed for San Antonio.

• Th- building is a frame, one
; story high, containing four spa-
:I'ioiis rooms and a wi le hail:
The ceiling is eleven feet high,
which makes the rooms very
cool in suiiiiu"r. The house
laces the West: North prong
of Hubbard creek, a sparkling
^t lea in fed by living springs,
i uiis within a few yards i f the
. h -use. This stream is ubirnd-
' autly supplied with fine (ish and
not a week passes but Jack and
! his fa mily enjoy a iivss of broil-
ied bass or baked cat-fish.
The enclosure is of stone and
so well built that a rabbit can-
not pass through it. Mr. Mas-
terton has a fine young orchard
of' apple, peach, pear, plum,
cherry, trees, and raspberry,
blackberry and English goose
berry bushes and grape vines in
great number, besides imiumer
able ornamental shrubs, trees
and plantsadorn the grounds.
We must return to the house
for the purpose- of"calling the
attention of ot)r old States read-
ers to the furniture. Brussels
carpet, oil paintings and other
works or' art which are unusual
in many elegant homes and
would do credit to bider counties
titan this, but Jack is a lover ol
ths rare and beautiful and lie has
shown his good taste, from the
selection of a wife down to the
smallest ornament iu his happy,
cheerful home.
