After enjoying another week of
pleasant weather I will endeavor to
send in some o fthe happenings of
the week.
The health of this place is very
good except Mrs. Parks, who has
been very sick, but we are glad to
say is improving.
The farmers are very busy now,
as the ground is dry enough to plow
and it is time to "get busy."
Mr. Ben Carpenter and family of
Nolan Valley spent Sunday with
his parents Mr. and Mrs. T. F. Car-
penter.
The Misses Malear's visited Miss
Ruby McCaslin Sunday evening.
Miss Maggie Thompson spent
Monday night with Mrs. Mrs. C. C.
Hollowell.
Mr. C. C. Hollowell, "our oil drum
mer" made a business trip to Tay-
lor and other points this week.
Mr. and Mrs. Hamilton of Bel-
ton called at the home of Mr. T. F.
Carpenter, Sunday evening.
Mr. Joe Carpenter and family
spent Sunday with Mr. W. S.
Thompson and family.
A number of young folks enjoy-
ed a singing at Mr. Hollowell's,
Monday night.
The ball game played between the
Nolan Valley and home boys was
won by the latter. "Hurrah."
Messrs. Walter Graves and Char-
lie Kelly of Midway were visitors
here Saturday.
Miss Ida Mitchell of Belton and
Mr. Tom Graves of Goldthwaite
were visitors at Mrs. Carpenters'
Sunday morning.
Grandma Shattuck visited Mrs.
Hollowell one day this week.
We are going to meet Tuesday
night to organize a literary Society.
Everybody come and join us.
The preaching by Mrs. Hill Sun-
day night was largely attended.
Miss Nannie Mae Alsup and Mr.
Hayworth from Belton were at Mrs.
Carpenter's Sunday evening.
Miss Besie Henry was a Belton
visitor Saturday. %
There will be singing at the
school house next Sunday evening
at three o'clock. Everyone is in-
vited.
The Misses Wisemans were in
Belton Saturday, shopping.

evening.
Mr. and Mrs. Festus Utley visited
at Mr. Kolls Sunday.
Albert Wheeler is making fre-
quent visits to "some valley," and
I wolud like yj' find oud "which val-
ley" it is, for I know 'the peaches"
are fine up there.
Mr. Editor, I saw that the "Kid"
of Summers Mill had inviten you
out to chop cotton. I will give you
a better job than that if you will
come out where I live. I will let
you "pull burs,' 'eat peaches and
carry you a fishing every night.

relatives in Cameron returned to
her home here Sunday evening.
Hardy Sirope of Little Nolan was
in this comunity first of the week.
Mrs. R. E. Sutton of Belton spent
Tuesday and Tuesday night with
her aunt, Mrs. Schiver.
Miss Medlin, who has been attend
ing the Thomas Arnold at Salado
returned home last week.
Quite a number of the young
folks of Killeen attended church
here Sunday.
Miss Ola McGill of Killeen is
spending the week with Miss Mag-
gie Cowan.
Grover Sutton and Worley Whit-
mire who has been attending school
in Belton returned home last week.
Mr. George Paten of Killeen visit-
ed relatives here Saturday and Sun-
day.
Mr. Tom Bowles, who was bitten
by a mad dog last week is at Aus-
tin now under treatment.
Mr. Melton Levi of Killeen visit-
ed relatives here last Tuesday.
Mrs. John Jackson left last Fri-
day for Lometa where she will
spend several weeks visiting
friends and relatives.
Some of the boys from here at-
tended the party at Mr. Fulwiler's
Saturday night and reported a fi ne
time.
Mrs. Tarrent and children of Tem
pie visited here Sunday.
Mr. A. R. Mancill and wife left
Saturday night and reported a fine
last week for ones county. They
will make that their future home.
Mr. Walter Roberts and wife of
Belton visited here Saturday and
Sunday.
The Masons are going to have
their picnic on the 24th of this
month at the Baptist camp ground.

I am "still alive and smiling," as
the old saying goes, and will try to
send in what little news I know.
Can't imagine what has become
of "Timid Maid," guess tho, she's
preparing to venture forth "for bet-
ter or for worse,' 'and if she is, I
wish her well.
Mc Sherrod of Elm Grove was
a visitor at Belle Plains last Sun-
day. *
Preaching service at the Church
next Saturday night, Sunday morn-
ing at 11 and Sunday night. The
public is cordially invited to attend.
Mrs. S. Y. Lee and children of'
Waco, have been visiting Mrs. Lee's
sister, Mrs. Philley at the home
of Mrs. I. J. Poteet for a few
days past and when she returned
home. Mrs. Pilly and children went
with her to stay until autumn.
Miss Leola Forrest visited Miss
Myrtle Griffin of Moreville Sun-
day.-

nice to take us all on that picnic?
That sure will be the time.
Misses Essie Forrest, Mary Lou
Powers and Eunice Poteet visited in
Georgetown last week and when
they returned they brought with
them Misses Leta and Bertie Pow-
ers, Ruth Poteet and her brother,
Horace to spend the summer. Mes-
srs. Henry Gibs and Joel Ray spent
Sunday night with Mr. J. B. Caw-
thon.
Mr. J. W. Smith attended "first
Monday" at Belton.
I heard that one girl sent word
to Olympia Allamon to keep that
rubber tire new until the summer.

Mrs. R. E. Hall is on the sick
list this week. Also Mr. Sam Kuy-

Miss Sallie and Miss Nevada Hall
were in Prairie Dell shopping this
morning.
Mrs. Taylor of Youngsport spent
several days in this part of the
country last week.
Miss Maud and Dolly Hampleton
of Prairie Dell visited Mr. Henry
Lander and family Saturday night
and Sunday.
Cotton choping is progressing
nicely as there were eighteen hands
counted in one field a few days ago.
Mr. Dof Kuykendoll has got the
burs down until he can see out. Stay
with them Dof. I am with you.
Mr. Bob Hall and wife were near
Youngsport Tuesday and report
plenty of rain and rough roads.
Ice cream is all the go in this sec-
tion. I have been told that Mr.
Henry Lander and Mr. Bob hall
have ice cream every other night.
But it is all hear say with me.

Well, Mr. Editor, I guess you
thought that the Prodigal had gone
to return no more. Well, he did
start off but didn't get any farther
than the "grass patch," and has
been there pretty regular ever
since.
Mr. J. R. Ashton and wife, Mr.
William Ashton and wife of Prai-
rie Dell, visited at Mr. Gilbert's
Sviday.
There was Sunday School at the
school house Sunday evening but
there wasn't many out. Let's every
bndv come out next Sunday and do
all the good we can in the Sunday
School.
Some of the young people of this
Mr. Dave Boyls and family was
in our community Sunday.
Mrs. J. C. Harville is visiting her
daughter, Mrs. Dave Johnson of
Bartlett.
Martha Owens visited Mrs. Mack
Mrs. Powell, Rachel Owens, Myr-
Phillips Saturday. *
tie Prater, called on Mrs. Mack Mc-
Cutchen Saturday.
Mack Sherrod visited near Hol-
land Sunday.
There was a certain young lady
in our midst Sunday that was all
smiles on acount of the river being
fordable.
The farmers wasn't damaged by
the high waters as much as was ex-
pected.
Lee Pritchard has sold his crop
and will leave for his home near
San Antonio in a few days.
It seems that Hugh is determined
that his horse will be hitched to
that cedar tree in front of Mr.
Owen's residence.
Since the rise of the Lampasas
the Hendrickson crossing is al-
most impassable and the most of
the people go by the Sawyers cros-
sing.
Wiley seemed very well pleased
with the company that came home
with Martha Sunday.
Rachel spent the day Sunday
with Myrtle. (Wonder what is go-
ing to happen?)
Marvin is chopping cotton for Mr.
Prater this week.
He says they have plenty of po-
tatoes to eat.
The crops in this vicinity are
looking well and a few more day's
of dry weather "Mr. Cocklebur"
will bid the farmers a fare-you-
well.
Mr. Sherrod is marketing toma-
toes daily.
Mr R. S. Prater went to Temple
Saturday.
The children are now preparing
their program for Children's Day
which will be in the near future.
Mr. Editor, if you enjoy looking
at pretty corn just come over in our
community and while you are here
we will take you in our orchard.
Marvin and Wiley went to town
Sunday. They cross at the Hend-
rickson crossing and it was so deep
they had to come back and go
around the pther way.
We have been so- busy the past

We are in hopes all of the cor-
respondents will be at the picnic.

General Green with his command
has taken a stand in our part of the
community.
Wilson is all smiles now.
Carol Brasher and sisters, Misses
Minnie and Addie, atended the lit-
erary at Moffat Saturday night.
Mr. and Mrs. Dave McCrary were
guests of Walter McCrary and wife
Sunday.
Miss Nannie Reeves was a guest
of Miss Sallie Gray of Moffat Sat-
urdav night ?.nd Sunday.
What has become of Jake and
Pete? Why don't they grace the
page with another letter.
John McCrary went to Moffat
Sunday. Must be some attraction
up that way.
Roy Finch visited relatives at
Pendletonville Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Walter McCrary
visited Mr. and Mrs. Forrest of
Midway one day last week.

What has become of Polly. We
haven't read a letter from her in a
long time.

Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Turland and
little con, Alfonso, spent Sunday
with Mr. Turland's parents.
Mr. Jim Ming spent Saturday
night with Mesrs. Grady and Bryce
Ferguson.
Mesrs. Sam,Love and Jean Fer-
guson say that they don't want any
more floods to come as it drowned
their buggy horses, Windy and
Maud. It is a good thing that they
hadn't got their rubbertires for they
can go to see their girls without rub
ber tires and can't with without hor-
ses but they will have to walk now.
Mrs. Nancy Gilbert spent Satur-
day with Mrs. Ballard.
Florence Melvin is not looking
so gay this week as she has not re-
ceived the right letter yet and don't
guess she will soon.
There sems to be a lot of "beau-
tiful" post cards going through the
mail bags of Uncle Sam's now days,
at least Mr. Grady Ferguson thinks
so.
Mr. Oscar Love and Mr. Sam
Love went down to Mr, Cawthon's
to get a load of corn Friday.
Mis Inez Love has been looking
longingly (?) towards but Mr.
Duke brought her a consolation the
other day.
Miss Ola Calhoun spent Saturday
night and Sunday with the Miss
Whitleys.
Mr. Eldon Belk was seen riding
on "main street (?) of Sulphur
Springs Sunday in his new rubber
tire but it seems as though he was
alone. Where's your girl, Eldon ?
A number of the Sulphur Springs
young folks attended the commence
ment exercises of the Thomas Ar-
nold graduates of Salado.
We will have to bid you all
"adieu" as we have made some

from our community for sometime

Health in our community is very
good at present.
The farmers have about finished
cutting their grain and threshing

ed relatives in Temple Sunday and

Mrs. Walter Mayes, Mrs. Jim
Martin and Aunt, spent Monday af-
ternoon with Mrs. Will Brakebill

Miss Lou Proctor has returned
home after having spent several
weeks with her sister, Mrs, Joe
Goode.
The young people of our commu-
nity attended the entertainment at
Mr. Hogan's near Midway Tuesday
night and report a pleasant time

We hope Miss Jesie Brakebill
will attend the State meeting of the
Farmers' Union as we are sure she
will be "taken care of." Mr. Wal-

we can't learn what for, as each
was bound by a solemn promise to
not tell for a certain length of
time, possibly we shall learn on the
15th of June or the first_ Sunday in
September. How about it girls?

sie Brakebill visited Miss Jessie

"Jake and Pete" of Cedar Creek
and "Sweethearts" of Heidenhei-
mer, come again. We enjoy your
letters but you see Heidenhei-
mer hasn't all the "Sweethearts."

Mr. Mack Sherrod found attrac-
tions at Prairie Valley Sunday af-
ternoon.
We were very sorry to hear that
it would take us more than two
days to win Mr. Sherrod's "little po-
tato" but the reason we wanted
him so bad we thought perhaps he
would throw his "large potato" in
for good measure but alas! we will
have to set our caps at Temple I
guess.
Mrs. Powell visited Mrs. J. M.
Owens Saturday evening.
Miss Myrtle Prater visited Mrs.
McCutchen Saturday afternoon.
Mr. Henry Hannon is still in the
Grove. Well we are glad of that
as we are fools about "Henry's."
"Bashful Beau" and "Timid
Maid," why don't you all come to
Elm Grove and get acquainted with
the "Old Bachelors" and "Pretty
Girl" though we can tell you be-
fore you come that they are some-
thing what you don't see every day.
Wiley, what made' you shave
your handsome mustache off? We
thought you looked much better
with them on.
Miss Martha must be enjoying
health, her cheeks sure looks pretty
and pink here lately.

There was a good attendance at
Sunday school Sunday and arrange
ments were made for a protracted
meeting to comemnce at this place
on July the 17th, conducted by Rev.
Andrews of Tyler, Texas.
The singing at Mrs. Houston's
Sunday was very much enjoyed by
all who attended.
Misses Ida Parrot and Ida Mark-
ham visited Sunday school at this
place Sunday.

ed home from Temple where she un
derwent an operation and am glad
to learn she is getting along nicely.
Miss Maggie Dice and mother, of
Three Forks was in our community

Mr. Cliff Talley went to Little
River Sunday morning on "busi-
ness."

The weather man has again smil-
ed on us with bright sunshine and
dry weather which we have cer-
tainly been enjoying after having
so much rain and mud.
The creek is clear and beautiful
since the recent rise. It looks like
that it might be the fabled foun-
tain, where one could bathe and be
young again.
J. R. Holland made a business
trip to eBlton Tuesday.
The reapers have completed their
work in this vicinity and the golden
grain is in the shock awaiting the
arrival of the thresher.
Claud Frazier spent Saturday
night and Sunday with his bro-
ther in Three Forks.
The farmers have been very busy
plowing and chopping cotton for
the last few days and should it re-
main dry another week we would
get our crops in good condition
once more.
The fishermen were agaiii with
us in great numbers this week.
They semed to be casting their nets
on the right side from the way
they were frying the finny tribe.
Mrs. Walter S. Dickenson and lit-
tle daughter, Margaret, were visit-
ing on Dog Ridge the latter part of
this week.
County Surveyor J. W. Turner and
party were out fishing last Friday.
Dr. Goddard of Holland, was in
town Friday, professionally.
We are sorry to report Mrs. R. B.
Dickinson on the sick list this week.
Among the candidates who regis-
tered here this week, were E. I.
Hill and Charlton Hall. We wel-
come them all and promise to give
them an attentive ear while they
are pleading their case, then we will
vote as we please on primary day.
Mrs. Mollie Gilleland attended
Miss Noble's musical recital at Hol-
land Saturday night.
J. M. Phillips, our miller, took a
day off Saturday and went to Bel-
ton to see the sights.
T. B. Lewis and family of Hol-
land were visitors in our city the
first of the week.
Miss Annie Kelly has returned
home after spending a few days
with her sister, Mrs. Colbert of
Burgess.
Remember our meeting to organ-
ize a literary next Saturday night.
