Owls Vie with Longhorns Tonight;
Wrestle Razorbacks Saturday
Tonight, the Rice Owl basketball '
team will play the first of two!
crucial games this week. The oppo-
sition will be the Texas Longhorns,
who. along with Rice and Baylor, are
in a tic for second place in the
conference behind Arkansas. The
other crucial game, of course, will
be against Arkansas Saturday night.
The winner of tonight's tussle will
in all likelihood finish in a tie for
first place in case Rice trips Ark-
ansas, or in a tie for second place
in case Rice fails to stop the Razor-
backs.
It would be wise for all who care
to see both the game and the score-
board to come early because an
overflow crowd is expected. The big
reason (besides the fact that both
teams are well up in the flag
chase) is that this will be the last
chance for Rice fans to see A1 Mad-
sen, the diminutive Longhorn eager
who has so endeared himself to the
followers of Rice basketball. Yes,
A1 is a senior this year as is his
chief mate, Slater Martin, a lad who
shoyld receive All American men-
tion. So Madsen will probably be out
to close his career in a blaze of
glory by setting a record in being
fouled and collecting free shots.
Hence, an interesting contest is in
the offing. Also starting for the
Longhorns will be Philip George,
Tom Hamilton, and Vilbry White,
currently the hottest Texas goaler.
Game time will be 8:15, and the
game will be preceded by a game
between the freshmen of the two
schols at 6:15.

People have been wanting more and more
telephone service and we've been working hard
to provide it.We've added nearly 9,000,000 new
telephones in the past three years. Still more
are needed and are on the way.
But that's not all that we've been doing
to increase the usefulness and value of the
telephone.
Telephone service has been extended to auto-
mobiles, trucks, boats, trains and airplanes...
real progress has been made in expanding and
improving rural telephone facilities . . . wife
and radio relay networks have been developed
and enlarged ... research has started on new
electronic devices which promise to bring even
wider horizons of electrical communications
within view.
All this means better telephone service for
you . . . more people you can reach easily and
quickly... more time in your day... a larger
world in your grasp.
