Presidency
Elections
Election time at Rice has some new twists this term, but
basically it is the same old thing. And since it is, all concerned
should remember certain fundamental facts and rules.
Electioneering around polling places is not to be done—
In the first place the rules committee forbids it— In the second
place, it probably would not do the candidate any good. By the
time to vote people have already made up their minds. The same
general principle holds for obeying other election rules.
Te results of this election are important insofar as they
determine in whose hands student leadership will be during the
coming- term. It is therefore important that all voters consider
carefully the qualifications of the various candidates for office
and realize the duty of voting for the best-fitted rather than
the nominee with the strongest or highest pressure political
bloc backing him.
All candidates should remember that, while these elections
are important, they are not worth getting terrifically upset
about. In six months time the names of the winners will be for-
gotten. That someone lost will not matter at the end of a far
shorter period. Most of those running are freshmen; if they
want a political career, there is plenty of time later even if rr 7 7 - —
