Babygarten
J.P. Cowen Early Childhood Center
and the County-City Library announce a
new program, 'Babygarten'. This unique
program helps parents and caregivers
learn ways to nurture reading readiness
and social /emotional emergent skills of
infants and toddlers. Babygarten provides
parents with the tools they need to help
entertain, comfort, observe and perhaps
understand their child during these first
few years of life. You and your child
are welcome to attend the first session
of Babygarten on Wednesday, Jan. 25,
from 2:30-3:30 p.m. at J.P. Cowen Early
Childhood Center. Babygarten will be hel !
each Wednesday at this time through Feb.
29. Registration is free and available to
children birth through two years of age.

Thursday, Jan. 26
Deaf Action Center
Representatives from the Deaf Action
Center (DAC) in Abilene will be at the
Sweetwater-Nolan County Health
Department on Thursday, Jan. 26 at 2
p.m. to talk about their services. The DAC
serves people who are deaf and hard of
hearing with a comprehensive range of
sendees. They will educate and train peo-
ple in coping and communication strate-
gies, assistive devices and Relay Texas
Service and more.
Book Review Club
The Book Review Club will hold its first
meeting of 2012 on Thursday, January
26, at 2 p.m. at the County-City Library.
Sandra Spears will be reviewing Dandelion
Summer, from the Blue Sky Hill series,
written by Lisa Wingate. Members, don't
forget to invite a friend.
Senior Citizen Dance
The Mitchell County Senior Citizen
Dance will be held on Thursday, Jan.
26 from 7-10 p.m. at the Colorado City
Civic Center, located at 157 E. 2nd. Cost
is $5 per person and snacks are wel-
come. Entertainment will be provided by
Mike Potter and friend Kevin Rainwater.

A retirement reception will take place
from 3-4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 31,
2012, in the Sweetwater City Commission
room at City Hall. Ray Adanies will be
honored for 38 years of service with the
City of Sweetwater.
Friday, Feb. 3
Go Red for Women Luncheon
The annual Go Red for Women lun-
cheon will be held on Friday, Feb. 3,
2012 at the Sweetwater TSTC (Texas State
Technical College) campus. Tickets for the
luncheon are $10 per person. Businesses
can sponsor a table for $80, which will
include six tickets and promotional ben-
efits with the business's logo at the table.

Allergy Support Group
Celiac and Food Allergy Support Group
will hold its first meeting Sat. Feb. 4 from
11 a.m. to noon in the community room
of the County-City Library. If you suffer
from celiac disease or from food allergies
or intolerance, you are welcome to come
for support, swap recipes and share expe-

Writing Workshop
Everyone has a story to tell. Learn how-
to tell yours at a free writing workshop,
"Telling Our Stories," from 1:30-3 p.m.
each Tuesday, Feb. 7,14,21, and 28, at the

in English and writing will be teaching

Flamingo Flock
The Sweetwater High School Band
will be conducting a "Flamingo Flock of
Music Notes" fundraiser for its upcoming
trip to perform at the Dallas Meyerson
Symphony Center in February. For a
donation of $10, you may request a
"flock of notes" be sent to a friend,
or if you have been "noted", you may
have your flock removed for that same
fee. Anti-Flocking insurance may also
be purchased for S10 that will guarantee
your yard to be free of any flamingos
and band signs during the course of this
event. For more information, please con-

Youth Arena Football
The Sweetwater Youth Football
Association will be accepting applica-
tions for youth arena football. The grade
levels for this year's team is current
fifth and sixth grades. Contact Heather
Holsey at 721-9582 for more information
or a registration form.
Book Donations Sought
The County-City Library is currently
accepting donations of both adult and
children hardback and paperback books,
magazines and videos for the annual
book sale which will be held April 27 and
28 at the Nolan County Coliseum Annex.
Come to the garage door in the alley
behind the library to unload the dona-
tions during business hours. Call 235-
4978 a few minutes before arriving at the
Bbrary to enable staff to be ready to help.
The hours of the library are Monday
from 1-6 p.m., Tuesday through Friday
from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from
9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Reckner Account
A benefit account had been set up for
Paul Reckner at First Financial Bank,
account number 10110056750. Reckner
recently went through back surgery and
has been readmitted with an infection.
All donations will go towards medical
bills and travel expenses due to his hos-
pitalization.
January Artist of the Month
The January Artist of the Month at the
County-City Library is Larry Cornoyer.
His artwork is displayed in the com-
munity room of the library. The hours
of the library are Monday from 1-6 p.m.,
Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5
p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Coats for Kids
Bahlman Cleaners is accepting dona-
tions for children in need. Coats, jackets,
sweaters, hoodies and anything consid-
ered winter weather clothing are needed.
Bahlman Cleaners accepts donations
year round, but with winter upon us,
the need is even greater. Donations can
be dropped off at Bahlman Cleaners,
located at 910 E. Third Street. For more
information call 235-9917.
Veterans Assistance
Goodwill Industries of West Texas
was just awarded a grant from the
Texas Veterans Commission to support
Veterans and their families. This support
includes employment services and train-
ing, family and individual counseling,
financial assistance, family and child
service, emergency care and assistance
and transportation assistance. They also
work very closely with all other military
support organizations to aid veterans and
their dependents. They work as a part-
nership to find whatever assistance that
is available. Contact Chuck Wilson or ask
for a Veteran Outreach Coordinator at
325-676-7925 or stop by the Goodwill at
2000 North First in Abilene.
