Tuesday, Oct. n
First Responders and
Firefighter's Appreciation Dinner
Ail appreciation dinner honoring the
firefighters of Nolan County will be held
at 6 p.m. on Tuesday Oct. n at the Nolan
County Coliseum Annex in Sweetwater.
Tickets are $15 a person or $120 for a
table of eight. Tickets can be purchased
at the Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce
or Sweetwater Regional Federal Credit
Union. A steak dinner will be provided
by The Chuck Wagon Gang with enter-
tainment provided by the Sweetwater
Municipal Band. Master of Ceremonies
will be State Rep. Susan King. All pro-
ceeds will go to the volunteer fire depart-
ments that served in protecting Nolan
County during the recent fires.
Woman's Forum
The Woman's Forum membership tea
will be held Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2011, from
11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the County-City
Library. All local ladies are invited. Call

Livestock Association
The next Nolan County Livestock
Association meeting will be Tuesday,
Oct. 11, at 7 p.m. in t 3 Old Kitchen at the
Nolan County Coliseum.
Sweetwater Aglow
Sweetwater Aglow Lighthouse will
host their mor hi? meeting on Tuesday,
Oct. 11, at 7 p.m. at the Holiday Inn
Express, located a 300 SE Georgia Ave.
Guest speakers will be Elise and Lesley
Cox, daughters of Dr. John R. Cox III
of Sweetwater. Everyone is invited to

Adult Literacy/ESI.
The Adult Literacy/ESL class will meet
at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 12, at the
County-City Library. Instructors will help
you learn to read, improve your reading

Football Tickets
General admission football tickets for
the Sweetwater vs. Big Spring football
game may be purchased at the SISD
Administration building, located at 207
Musgrove, beginning Wednesday, Oct.
12. Ticket sales will end Friday, Oct. 14,
at 1 p.m. Advance ticket prices will be $5
for adults and $3 for students. All tickets
will be $6 at the gate. The ball game will
be played in Sweetwater with kick-off

Story Hour
Stoiy Hour at the County-City Library
for parents and their children will be
held at 10:45 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 13.
Library staff will lead the parents and

West Texas Wind Festival
Roscoe will once again host the West
Texas Wind Festival. All are welcome.
The free headline act this year is The
Bellamy Brothers. Opening for them is
Lawless Flatz. Other attractions include
the Plowboy Mud Bog ($25 per driver if
you want to run your rig) at George Parks
Field, food and craft vendors as well
as a kid's area downtown, the Roscoe
Volunteer Fire Department's BBQ cook-
off of 16 ounce rib-eye, pork spare ribs
and half chicken ($75 to enter) and a
fireworks show. For cook-off informa-
tion call 325-235-4140. For Mud Bog
information call 325 514-8384. For
vendor information call 325-725-0756.
Sequence of events: 8 a.m. cook's meet-
ing at the Fire Department, 10 a.m. Mud
Bog registration and vendor/kid's area
open, 12 p.m. Mud Bog and live music
begins at 5:30 p.m.
Steak Cook Off
The 2nd annual "BBQ-ing in the Wind"
Steak Cook Off will be hel on Saturday,
Oct. 15, 2011, in Roscoe during the West
Texas Wind Festival. Events will consist
of a 16 ounce rib-eye steak, pork spare
ribs and chicken. Meat inspection will
start at 8 a.m., with a cooks meeting at
10 a.m. Turn in times will begin at 3 p.m.
(chicken), 4 p.m. (rib-eye steaks), and 5
p.m. (ribs). Set up start on Friday
at 6 p.m. One camper (only dry camper
spaces allowed) and one vehicle with up
to a 12' x 12' cover and no more than two
cooking pits in the cooking area are per-
mitted. Cooking fuel can consist of wood,
gas or charcc Hookups and electricity
are not allowed on the cooking site, but
public electricity and a water station will
be supplied. Cost for all three events
will be $75. To enter the steak category,
participants must enter all three events.
All proceeds will go to the Roscoe Fire

42nd Annual German
Sausage Festival
On Saturday, Oct. 15, 2011 in Slaton,
Texas, German and Jalapeno sausage
will be sold by the pound from 9 a.m.
until 12 noon, leading up to the St.
Joseph's 42nd Annual German Sausage
Festi val on Sunday, Octobei l6, 2011 at
St. Joseph's Hall. Dinner will be served
from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. with take-out
orders available. For more information,

Sunday, Oct. 16
Nancy Verschoor
Nancy Verschoor, a member of the
West Texas Art Guild, will give a slide
show presentation and talk on her recent
trip to Israel on Sunday, Oct. 16. It will
begin at 6 p.m. at The Church of Jesus
Christ of Latter-day Saints located on
the corner of 10th and Elm Street in
Sweetwater. All are invited to come.
Wednesday, Oct. 19
Masons Fundraiser for WTCAC
Sweetwater Masonic Lodge #571 will
host their annual benefit lunch from 11
a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct.
19, to benefit the West Texas Children's
Advocacy Center, at the Masonic I odge,
located at 324 Oak Street. Chili and beans
will be served with a drink and dessert
for $8. Carry out will be available.
Friday, Oct. 21
Flu Vaccine
The Sweetwater-Nolan County Health
Department (SNCHD) will be adminis-
tering flu vaccine on Wednesdays during
regular immunization clinic. A sped
flu clinic is set on Friday, Oct. 21 from
8-10:30 a.m.; the cost for the flu vaccine
is $20. Medicare patients are reminded
to bring their Medicare (Part B) cards,
and any Medicare supplement insurance.
Pneumonia shots are available for $60.
Children six months through 18 years of
age are eligible to receive t le flu vaccine
through the Texas Vaccine for Children
Program for $6. Regular immuniza-
tion hours are 8-11:30 a.m. and 1-4:30
p.m. and the second Wednesday of each
month until 6 p.m.
Fight for the Cure
The Breast Cancer Fight for the Cure
event will take place at the volleyball
and football games on Friday, Oct. 21,
in Snyder. Once again, sponsorships are
appreciated and those sponsoring will
have their name displayed on the back of
the shirts. Those wishing to sponsor need
to respond by Friday, Sept. 30. "In honor
of " or "in memory of sponsorships are

NNR Fall Festival Carnival
Nolan Nursing and Rehab, located at
705 NE Georgia, is sponsoring a Fall
Festival Carnival on Tuesday, Oct 25,
from 4-6:30 p.m. This carnival fundrais-
er will support Christmas and holiday
festivities. Games, booths, food and fun
will be on hand for everyone. The com-
munity is welcome to attend.
Rehab Shrimp Peel
The Round-Up for Rehab shrimp peel
and live auction will take place from 6-8
p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2011, at the
Nolan County Coliseum Annex. Tickets
are $20 each. Sponsorships are available
with Gold at $500 that includes eight
dinners and Silver at $250 that inclu as

The annual Round-Up for Rehab sale
will take place at noon on Wednesday,
Oct. 26, at Sweetwater Cattle Auction. A
free chuck wagon lunch will be served at
11:30 a.m. There will be many items for
auction from pies to cattle to household

Thursday, Oct. 27
TSTC Halloween Extravaganza
Texas State Technical College will be
hostingthe Halloween Extravaganza once
again this year. The date is Thursday,
Oct. 27, 2011 from 6-9 p.m. in the
Student Center at the TSTC Sweetwater
campus. Student organizations from
the TSTC campus as well as commu-
nity organizations, churcl groups and
youth groups will be provid ig fun and
spooky games for the evening. Candy
and games will be given away as prizes.
If anyone is interested in having a booth
at the Halloween Extravaganza, contact
TSTC as soon as possible. TSTC pro-
vides the prizes and candy. The organi-
zation receives 80% of the proceeds and
TSTC keeps 20% to cover the costs of

First Baptist Church Fall
Festival
The public is invited to attend the
forthcoming FBC Fall Festival on
Sunday, Oct. 30, from 5:30-7:30 p.m.
Bring the entire family and enjoy food,
game booths, an air slide, cake walk,
prizes and lots of family fun. FBC mem-
bers are asked to bring individually
wrapped candy to the church office to be
given away by the various booths.
Tuesday, Nov. 1
Sweetwater Goodfellows
The Sweetwater Goodfellows will have
their sign-ups from 9 a.m. to noon and
1-3 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 1, Wednesday,
Nov. 2, and Thursday, Nov. 3, at the
Sweetwater Fire Station, located at 900
E. Broadway. Applicants need to bring
latest proo of income, approval notice
for food stamps, birth certificate for
each child, pay stub and approval notice
for TANF. Residents in Sweetwater,
Roscoe, Nolan, Blackwell and Maryneal
are welcome to apply.
