Like puzzles?
Then you'll love sudoku. This miiid-bend-
iiig puzzle will have you hooked from the
moment you square off, so sharpen your
pencil and put your sudoku savvy to the
test!
Here's How It Works:
Sudoku puzzles are formatted as a 9x9
grid, broken down into nine 3x3 boxes.
To solve a sudoku, the numbers 1 through
9 must fill each row, column and box.
Each number can appear only once in
each row, column and box. You can fig-
ure out the order in which the numbers
will appear by using the numeric clues
already provided in the boxes. The more
numbers you name, the easier it gets to
solve the puzzle!

FOR TUESDAY,
JANUARY 11, 2011
You think you know
someone, and then a fresh
face, a new circumstance
or some other unknown
element is introduced, and
this brings out an entirely
different facet of their per-
sonality. This is the kind
of thing that happens as
Mercury in Sagittarius
angles Jupiter and Jranus
to turn up our curiosity and
open us to other worlds and
possibilities.
ARIES (March 21-April
19). There's an elder inside
you and also a wild child.
The two will play in har-
mony, helping you to create
and have fun and still stay
within the boundaries that
are best for you.
TAURUS (April 20-May
20). You want to enter an
exclusive situation. It is as
though there is a magical
world hat you can only
enter if the creatures who
live there trust you enough.
You'll build that trust today
by staying present and
patiently observing.
GEMINI (May 21-June
21). Your dream is building
slowly but surely. Anyway,
these small beginnings
will make for a better story
when you've finally arrived.
Imagine yourself telling
that story now.
CANCER (June 22-July
22). You'll get a reaction
from people today. Some
smile, some laugh, and
others just seem startled.
That's to be expected.
When you knock long and
loud on the door of success,
you're going to wake some
people up.
LEO (July 23-Aug. 22).
Complaining is a nasty
habit. You're working on
breaking yourself of it com-
pletely, and you are doing a
good job. You'll busy your-
self with fulfilling your own
needs so there is nothing
left to complain about,
VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept.
22). You may be slip-
ping out of your routine
due to addec pressures
and responsibilities. Good
nutrition, exercise and sleep
should not be optional for
you. Delegate so you can
get back to healthy living.
LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct.
23). Make the most of the
calm because it's not going
to be this way tomorrow.
You'll enjoy the peace now
and will take care of a mil-
lion organizational details
so you can enjoy the social
swirl tomorrow.
SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov.
21). Your productivity
isn't as important as the
emotional connection you
make with others as you
show ip to do your thing.
Consider cutting back on
your demands of yourself
so you can ease into a bet-
ter mood.
SAGITTARIUS (Nov.
22-Dec. 21). You are put-
ting out good vibes now,
and you will be extremely
well received everywhere
you go. You may owe some-
one an apology, and now is
a perfect time to deliver it
— short, sweet and to the
point.
CAPRICORN (Dec.
22-Jan. 19). Of course
you would prefer to get
your own way. However,
you may decide to defer
to someone else's will in
the short term in order to
hold out for future personal
gain.
AQUARIUS (Jan.
20-Feb. 18). If you spend
hours touching base with
the people who are impor
tant to you, you have used
your time well. This net-
working is good for your
heart and it doesn't art
your business, either.
PISCES (Feb. 19-March
20). Sometimes you can
take hold of a mood and
change it into what you
want it to be. Today the
inner mood may be so per-
sistent that the only way
out of it is to go deeper
into it.
TODAYS BIRTHDAY
(Jan. 11). You have a
knack for helping and will
bring people up wherever
you go. The next seven
STONE SOUP® by Jan Eliot
weeks present opportuni-
ties to develop your tal
ents. You'll enjoy increased
financial security th rough
May and June and will find
many ways to have fun with
your resources. The bonds
of friendship and love are
cemented in August. Pisces
and Gemini people adore
you! Your lucky numbers
are: 21, 24, 32,16 and 14.
ASTROLOGICAL
QUESTIONS: "Is the
p] <t Mercury named after
the Greek god, or is the
Greek god named after the
planet? My mom doesn't
know and she said that I
should ask you. So now I
am. P.S.: I'm a Sagittarius
and 1 just turned 9.
That is an excellent ques-
tion. A long, long time ago,
before the invention of
television or the birth of
Shakespeare, people would
watch the stars for their
nighttime entertainment.
The Greeks and the Romans
(and the Babylonians, the
Egyptians, the Chinese
and Druids and, well, just
about everyone in ancient
history) used the stars as
inspiration to create sto
ries about how the world
was bom, how the universe
w orks and all of the excit-
ing things that might have
happened to make things
the way they were. Ancient
Romans saw an interesting
object in the sky at sunrise,
and they called it Apollo.
They saw a similar inter
esting object at sunset and
called it Hermes. It's likely
that they had some stories
about these characters, and
they continued to develop
the stories as they watched
the sky. Later, they found
out that this wasn't two
objects, but one. \nd the
mythology around Mercury
is largely taken from
Hermes.
