Helen E. Green went on to glory to be with our Lord Jesus Christ at
12:20 am on Wednesday, June 15, 2011, at the age of 91.
Helen was born on October 13,1919, in Cumberland, Maryland. She
was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin T. Green; son, Vincent
Brown; her parents, John and Bessie May Taper Gamble; and her
sisters, Pearl, Ruth (also known as "Kate") and Cora.
She first started painting in the third grade, where she painted a
"Candy Land" for a school project. She became active in other school
activities and dropped her painting.
In her adult life, she married, had children, and had a career in nursing.
She was involved in missionary work at an Indian Reservation in
Arizona and participated in the Foster Grandparent and Senior Home
Companionship Program in Waterbury, Connecticut.
Helen lived in Seguin, Texas, while she was in her 80s. There, she
began taking art lessons and rekindled her passion for art, realizing
how much she had missed painting. Three of her paintings were
displayed in the Art Education Group Exhibition of San Antonio, Texas.
In August 2009, her painting of "Noah's Ark" was featured in the
Arkansas Health Care Foundation calendar.
She enjoyed gospel music, reading the Bible, church activities,
crossword puzzles, as well as writing poetry. As a bold and determined
woman, she loved the Lord Jesus Christ and allowed Him to speak and
inspire others through her poetry and paintings throughout the rest of
her life.
She is survived by her brother, Billy Gamble of New York; daughter,
Burma Keel of California; and son, Marvin Green (and
wife Brenda) of Texas; her grandchildren,
Christopher Keel, Rolanda Green and Preston
Brown; and her great granddaughter, Christiania
Keel.
Helen left behind a legacy of art and family and
she will be greatly missed. But her family is com-
forted knowing that she has gone on to the city
"whose builder and maker is God" (Hebrews 11:10).
