Obituary
Claude Edward Chew was the oldest child born to Mary
Jane Burrell and Lee Osborn Chew on July 29, 1942 in
Caldwell, Texas. His father and mother preceded him in
death. He was also preceded in death by his sister,
Margaret Ann Johnson and nephew, Matron "Brad"
Grays II.
At an early age, he confessed a hope in Christ and was
baptized by Rev. Wilson at College Hills Baptist Church,
College Station, Texas, and remained a member until
graduating from Lincoln High School in 1961. Claude
served his country for twenty-five years and was a civil
servant for twelve years before retiring.
On November 5, 1966, Claude was united in holy
matrimony to Marion Brown of Bryan, Texas. Into this
union, they brought six children: Wayne, James, Vickie,
Don, Cheryl and Calandra.
He rededicated his life to Christ when he joined Grace
First Baptist Church in San Antonio, Texas where he
taught Sunday School, was an active member of the
Brotherhood, and later ordained as a Deacon.
He departed this life on May 1, 2007. He leaves to cherish
his memory: his loving wife of 40 years, Marion; three
sons: Donald Wayne Brown (Gloria) of Bryan, Texas;
James Otis Brown of Houston, Texas; and Don Fitzgerald
Brown (Katrina) of Ellenwood, Georgia; three daughters:
Vickie Evetta Brown, Cheryl Ann Chew and Calandra
Diana Chew of San Antonio, Texas; two brothers: David
Columbus (Jini) of Daphne, Alabama and Jackie
Columbus of College Station, Texas; one sister, Eleanor
GrayS'Butler (Leon) of Grand Prairie, Texas. He also
leaves five grandchildren: Zuri Lee Brown, Nathan
Alexander Brown, Katyria Ashley Thornton, Jeniece
Yvette Brown, Mahagani Dawn Brown; one uncle, Rev.
Dr. Emmett Burrell of Dallas, Texas; three aunts: Etta
Burrell, Hattie Beatrice Searcy, Lahoma Williams; and
