December Exhibition of M odernist Paintings
The interest manifested in the Exhibition of Contemporary
French Painting, called the Post-Modern Show by its originators,
has fully justified its acceptance through the courtesy of the Hous-
ton Museum of Fine Arts which has arranged the circuit for the
Southern states. The collection was made by personal selection
from the Paris studios by Lucien Lebaudt of the California School
of Fine Arts and it was circuited on the western coast last year
by the Western Association of Museum Directors.
Its chief value to us probably lies in its educational function
as the selection has been made with the idea of showing the
development of several of the more modern forms of painting as
well as to illustrate the work of some of the most important con-
temporary men as Picasso and Derain. It is regrettable that many
of our visitors will know these men first through rather unimpor-
tant examples of their work but we shall try, as opportunity
arises, to show their important things in order to help our public
see and enjoy the newer types of painting.
In the meantime we appreciate the great kindness of all those
concerned in enabling us to benefit by this collection at a nominal
expense to our gallery. The list follows:Artist
