Note

  • Display Note: User feedback: "I am the baby Anna is holding. My name is Else Jensine Nygaard, daughter of Hans D. and Herdis Laursen Nygaard. AUNT ANNA NYGAARD, RN, Charity Hospital, New Orleans, is the sister of my father HANS D. NYGAARD. Aunt Anna Nygaard is my Godmother. The photo was taken by my mother, Herdis Laursen Nygaard in 1936 at my Baptism in Harleston/Granly community, Jackson County, Miss. I was born August 13, 1936 at Harleston community/Granly/ in the DANISH settlement established in 1930, northeast Jackson Co., Miss. My father Hans D. Nygaard is the son of the Danevang Nygaard family of Hans and Sine. After WWI he left and lived in Chicago. Moved to the NEW Danish settlement of Granly, Jackson Co., MS in 1929-30. He and sister Anna bought 40 acres to establish a dairy farm. My father and mother married Sept. 5, 1935 by Rev. K. Knudsen, Danish minister who also moved to the new Granly MS Colony of Danes. The person submitting the photo, Gerda Stuart, is my first cousin, daughter of my father's sister, Ida Thyssen (Carl) of Danevang, TX."
