Postal Inspector
Here Last Week
Post Office Inspector Wotkins
of Houston, spent several days in
Orange this past week to survey
the Orange post office building
and facilities with anticipation of
some additional space to relieve
the crowded conditions.
He stated that no money had
been appropriated for new build-
ings, but hoped some plan could
be worked out to facilitate some
extra room here.
American grocers, butchers, and
others who sell goods by weight
annually require Vriore than 98,000
new computing scales, according
to the Census.

break up the opposition to his
government which was asserting
itself among the American col-

Hundreds of people from va-
rious sections of the Texas gulf
coast had assembled on the high*
land sections, known as bluffs, on
the Sabine river, where business
houses and dwellings now stand.
The people fled to the Sabine
river with their flocks of horses
and cattle expecting to swim
them across the river to the
Louisiana side of the stream when
the Mexican armies came near
enough.
In the meantime Orange was
known as the Lower Town of
Jefferson, next as Green's Bluff,
Madison, and Orange in 1857.
