Why the Little House
hired a Pampa contractor
I UNDERSTAND YOU HAVE some concerns as to our choice of con-
tractors on our recent improvements to the Little House. The use of an
out-of-town contractor was decided upon because of limited time to
complete the project. Paul Coronis (whom we have used before person-
ally) called to see if there was any work needing to be done on our
house. I personally did not have anything, but I asked him to look into
our project. He could get it completed in our time frame and the bid was
acceptable.
That is how we came to that decision. Our board discussed our
hometown contractors and felt that they were all currently involved in
other projects and wouldn't be able to finish in the allotted time.
We did use as many Canadian businesses as possible, including: Ca-
nadian Supply and Redi Mix, Bartlett's Ace Hardware, Canadian Glass
& Sign, Robbins True Value, Able Plumbing, Woodside Electric,
Caprock Heat & Air, Curt and Carolyn Warren, John Guy Folley and
Kandi Dodson.
Our flooring was purchased from Charlie's in Pampa, and they sent
the crew to install the floor. We are very gracious and appreciative of
the tremendous amount of support we receive from the community of
Canadian. There was never any intent to leave anyone out. It was just a
matter of timing. We did what we felt we had to do in order to get this
project completed. Please call Nancy or I if you have any questions,
The following people put in many hours working as volunteers:
Nancy, Chris, Rachel, Caroline and Sam Schwerzenbach; Bonnie,
Maddie and Luke Abraham; Donna Carter, Anita Webb, Julie Cooper,
Sam Schafer, Robert Ezzell, Tim Harland, George Briant, Cathie and
Ronnie Barney, Prater Enterprises, plus a couple of boot camp cadets.
Caroline Cornett allowed us to have our garage sale at Cornett Realty.
Malouf Abraham drew up the plans for our project.
I hope I have not left anyone out.
BONNIE ABRAHAM
EDITOR'S NOTE: I was pleased to hear that the Little House had re-opened this
week after extensive modeling and construction of an addition that will pro-
vide much-needed space. This publicly-supported day care center provides a
valuable service to the community, and has always benefitted from the en-
thusiastic and unselfish support of Canadian in return. After hearing several
local contractors bemoan the fact that a Pampa builder had been brought in
for the project, I asked board member Anita Webb—who was in the Record
office on Little House business—how the choice had been made. I hope
Bonnie Abraham's letter answers that question to the satisfaction of all
those who also wondered—particularly the local contractors. —LEB
