Democratic Donkey Triumphant
Over Republican Elophu'nt
and Bull Moose.
From the returns of the Na-
tional election held throughout
the country on Novembei 5th,
it appears that Wilsoo and
Marshall have suowed under
both the Elephant and the
Moose and won a sweeping
victory ami in March next the
Chief Magistrate of the nation
will be not only a democrat but a
son of the old Sout h. In common
with all good democrats the
Advertiser rejoices in this vic-
tory and heralds it as an indi-
cation that the time will soon
come when the mere fact that
a man lives south of Mason
and Dixon's line will be no
bar to his aspirations for the
highest office within the gift of
the people. It also appears
that the next house of Represen-
tatives will be in full control of
the Democracy and as we go to
press the returns seem to indi-
cate that we will also have a
majority of the Senate, thus
giving us entire control of /he
three branches of the Govern-
ment. No good reason exists
why the triumpant Democracy
should not control the destiny
ot the country for a quarter of
a century, the Republican par-
ty is broken and well nigh des-
troyed, while it is evident to
all thinkiug men that the Pro-
gressive Party is a one man af-
fair and dependent for its ex-
istence upon the personal
strength of Mr. Roosevelt, while
to become a permanent factor
in the affairs of the natiou, a
party must be planted upon a
platform which will safeguard
the interest of the people as a
whole and no particular section
of the country, No mau can
doubt that the death of Theo-
dore Roosevelt would be the
end of the Progressive Party
while the Democratic Party has
withstood the assault of special
interests for more than fifty
years and finally by iff recent
victory demonstrated that it is
first in th • hearts of the great
majority of the American peo-
ple Let every good democrat
uphold the hands of the newly
elected president and not be
too quick to criticise his every
act without f'rsi giving it the
propei consideration, and the
result will be that the Democ-
racy will reign supreme in
governmental affairs for many
years.
