children's day exercises.
It was indeed an inspiring and
interesting treat to be present at
the Methodist church on last Sun-
day morning, and witness the
most excellent programme ren
dered with remarkable ease and
grace. From the opening chorus
and Processional to the benedic-
tion, every number was good,
and the children did great credit
to themselves and to the faithfu
committee who drilled them for
the occasion. The program in
full was as follows: Processional,

^WHY A STATE BANK?
A State Bunk lacks nothing of the security
afforded by government supervision. It is under
the direct control of the State Banking Depart-
ment, and subject to rigid periodical examina-
tions of its expert auditors, who see that all the
laws safeguarding depositors are complied with.

memorial to jefferson davis.
Quite a large and interested
crowd met together near the
Monument at the court house on
Sunday afternoon to witness the
memorial exercises to Jefferson
Davis, given under the auspices
of the U. D. C. Chapter, and
all unite in pronouncing the pro-
gram a splendid one. The ac-
complished and cultured historian
Mrs. S. J. Orgain, has establish-
ed her reputation for taste and
skill in such programmes, and
this one was among the very
best. The songs were the sweet
familiar ones that cling to our
very heart strings, along with
the sacred memories of lire, and
the addresses of Turner Fowler 2*
and Mr. John Erhard were of ai*^
very high order of excellence,j K
delivered with impressive dignity I 2
and grace. The program was as
follows; Music, opening chorus, | ^

Moving picture shows at the 1
new Airdome will doubtless
prove an attractive feature to
our people during the long, dry
and hot summer time. The first
one Tuesday night, was attended
by quite a large crowd of specta-
tors who report the pictures fine.
The Revival services being
conducted at the Baptist churcn
by the pastor, Rev. T. I. Barker,
assisted by Rev, P. C. Schilling,
of Waco, who is doing some fine
preaching, and also by Rev. Pain
who is conducting the music.
The first night's service was at-
tended by success, in that there
were ascessions to the church,
besides severrl others have joined
since. Special Music on Sunday
night was a Trio, san« by Misses
Annie Mae Trigg, Lonnie Martin
and Mr. Price Jenkins, which
was much enjoyed. The relig-
ious work is organized with ser-
vices at 9:30 o'clock every morn-
ing, Prayer meetings in the
homes at 4 o'clock in the after-
noon, and services again at night.
The base ball boys under man
agement of manager, Mr. Hal
Jones and Mr. T. P. Haynie, are
marching steadily on to victory
after victory. In the record for
this season they have played
twelve games in all, and have
lost only four out of twelve-
eight out of twelve won, and the
best part of the whole thing is
that the Bastrop boys propose to
keep up this record, and attend
strictly to this matter in this
manner, with every amateur
team that may tackle them.
Mrs. flaiues has taken in
haud a class of elocution, and
already some of her pupils have
done great credit to her efficien-
cy, as was showu in the spleu
did renditions at th < Children's
Day Exercises.
Thursday was a full day for
the ladies of Bastrop, and full
reports of the following meet-
lugs on that afternoon must
await the next issue of the Ad-
