Houston, Tex. The rice hat vesting
season m Texas is now about over
ami practically the entire nop of both
Honduras and Japan has moved to
cover. This marks a new record for
earllness, ami was made possible by
the very favorable weather conditions
which prevailed almost iiiiiutei rupl-
eill) from the opening till the present
close of the season. Iii some lot all-
ties the quality of the cereal is not up
to what it was last year, which tact is
attributed to dry weiTthei during tb>i
heading season, but tin the whole Hi4
crop has reached storage iu excellent
condition, and practically mine ot Hi*
crop has gone to waste.
The acreage planted to rice In this
state the piesent year is estimated at
I'SI.OOO aci'.s. which is a few thousand
acres iu excess of the previous year.
The average yield, however, has not
been so good. A consei valive esti-
mate places the acicagu ot Japan at
oiieiourth the total, and ot Honduras
three-tou rt lis.
Of the total crop of both Honduras
and Japan, a conservative t-tima'e
places the amount already sold at ai>-
proximately 40n."b0 bags, leaving iu
forage and Mill uisold about l.S-il,*
000 hags.
In view of the fait that the yield of
Mississippi rice till- season has bceu
practically double what it usually is.
and this rice is first io move into con-
sumption. the Texas market has been
slow iu adjusting itscli to a stablo
basis, and appreciating the fuel that
the yield In this state is less than it
was last year, the fanners have fflt
just itied in w it bholding their stocks
from the market at present prices,
heme the few sales which have oc-
curri d in this portion of the belt as
compared with previous years. In ad-
dttiori to tbe h-iivy vleltl ot Mississip-
pi river t u e. which the market has
been steadily absorbing, there was car-

have heretofore been able to forecast
the future of the market pretty accu-
