At Jefferson, Texas, on the littli

curred. For two hour* the heavens
were ablaze; the crash of thunder
waa heard all around. A farmer by
the name of John Ward was on hia
way to Jefferson, when (he atorui
came up, and when within about a
mile and a half from town lightning
struck a telegraph pole, glanced off
and struck Mr. Ward, killing him
instantly. Mr. J. M. Badgctt wm
also on his way to town *hen light*
ning struck a tree close by. Mr.
Badgctt felt a peculiar aensation,
arid at the same time hia horae fell
with him. Aa soon aa his horse got
up Mr. Badgetl ralaed hia hand to
take off hia hat, because Ids head

looking at his hat he was surprised
to find that the crown waa com-
pletely gone. It seems as if tbe
lightning had passed through like
knife, with only a slight shock to
Mr. Badgett.
