... A young, man wrote to a paper
m tlie northern part of the State,
asking whether it would be ad-
visable for him to marry a "young
and tender angel who had never
done her own washing 01* dress-
making." In reply, the editor
advised him to do so by all means,
and mentioned a similar case in
his own experience, where the
bride had never done her own
washing, but after marriage she
became so fond of the washtub,
as not only co work for her own
family? but for several families
among her acquaintances.
A deacon in Illinois objected
to the organ purchased by his
church, and, when called upon to
close the service with prayer,
said:
"Call 011 the machine! If it
can sing the glory of God, it can
pray, too. Call on the machine!"
A Simple fellow once said of
a famous beauty:
" I could have courted and
married her easy enough if I'd
wanted to."
"And, pray, why didn't you?"
asked his friend.
"Oh, when I began to court
her, you see, she took me 011 one
side, and politely asked to be
excused, and so I excused her.

Mr. Ii. B. Shaw, Sheriff of this
county, arrested a Mr. Dolins
and kept him in town several
days. Mr. Dolins killed a. man
in Live Oak some two years ago
and came to this county where
he has been ever since.—[Kauf-

A colored man was killed at
Thief Neck, in this county, by
a young man named DeGrali'en-
reid. The colored man, it seems
went to look for a colt belonging
to his employer, which he found
at the farm of the young man,
in the lot among some other
stock. Whereupon a difficulty
arose, wnich resulted in the kil-
ling of the colored man.—-fSlier-,

Ar man named Tucker was
killed on the phtco of Mr. Prank
Barton, near Calvert on last
Thursday night by a drunken
and infuriated negro woman
named Mattie Mitchell, whom
he was attempting to make con-

We are sorry to learn that the
church at San Marcos was burned
to the ground. It is thought by
some to be the work of an incen-
diary, while others think it caught
lire from the lamps which had
not been entirely extinguished
after service the evening before.

The Germauia Club is getting
to be quite an institution of our
city. Thouh yet in its infancy
the club has a membership of
over thirty and a capacity for
music such as would fairly aston-
