director for undergraduate
business programs.
Jim Alleman, Chief Human
Resources Officer for NHC
Corp. and a UD board member,
will discuss "a wide range of
skills around self-marketing,
from resume preparation to
networking and interviewing and
self-marketing," he said, "[and
students should come] to learn
and explore ideas on how to best
market themselves as they move
to the next stage of their lives."
Tony Tyler, ofTyler Media, will
be on the marketing, publishing,
and public relations panel March
1. Tyler will speak about the
things you need to do to get a
job, and the fact that a degree
does not guarantee you a place
in life, he said.
Tyler believes UD graduates
have an advantage over students
from traditional career-focused
schools. "We learn how to find
answers, how to ask questions.
We're going to get something
in the four years at UD that no
one else will ever be able to get,"
Tyler said.
Anne Johnson, deputy director
of corporate research for the US
Chamber of Commerce, will
speak on the public policy and
public service panel. Johnson
will address ways to find your
first job out of college and the
importance of internships and
summer jobs.
"The panel consists of
University of Dallas alumni,
so we were all in the same
shoes as the seniors, and we all
found jobs. We've been there
and we know what it's like.
We're successful coming from a
liberal arts background and we'd
like to share our stories," said
Johnson.
Dr. Roper, associate English
professor, will moderate the
panel on publishing, marketing,
and public relations. Alumni
panelists will include Nancy
Trapper, managing editor of
Annals of Emergency Medicine;
Missy Grant, director of
marketing at Stream, a software
services provider; Tony Tyler, of
Tyler Media; and Anne King, of
King Public Relations.
Dr. Hanssen, assistant history
professor, will mediate the panel
on public policy and public
service. Alumni panelists will
include Anne Johnson, deputy
director of corporate research with
the US Chamber of Commerce;
Kevin Calvey, Oklahoma state
representative; Mike Barvick,
executive director of the office
of Youth Development with the
Youth Leadership Foundation;
and Marissa Johannes, director of
constituent services for Senator
John Cornyn.
