Duty of Every
Sacrifice Just a Little to
Boost Use
Did you hew District Food Administra-
tor C. N. Bassett's talk at the Buy Home
Products dinner given by the Chamber of
Commerce at the Hotel Sheldon last Wed-
nesday evening?
Perhaps If yon did Mot hear his speech you read extracts
from it published in the newspapers.
The lesson that Mr. Bassett emphasized in his speech is
just beginning to be realiied by the people in El Paso.
Hitherto .buying home products was preached aa a duty
to your home town. Buying away from home was regarded
as helping some other town or section in the United States
at the expense of your home town.
Right now the whole situation has changed and as Mr.
Bassett brought oat forcibly you era not only helping your
own town but you are helping the other town and helping
all the towns in the country. In other words buying home
products when they can be bueiht Is helping the United
States and helping the United States win the war.
The railroads hare enough to do to toko aire of freight
transportation that most go and government work without
hatding products from one ituontry to another that can be
purchased at home.
What is the lesson?
Mr. Bassett said in his talk that it Was the duty of every
El Pasoan to sacrifice just a little. if necessary to encourage
the ose of home prodsKtS. If something was not exactly at
fine at an outside article why use it. In most case where there
is a difference that difference will be small. In many other
cases the El Paso product will be the superior. Bet as Mr.
Bassett says if there are cases where the El Paao product
is not quite so fine make the sacrifice. You are helping '
El Paso and the whole country win the war. The boys hi
the trenches probably would like food and other things a
little different But they don't make a fuss. Why then
should people who are not called on to go to the front
complain when asked to use their home products which in
a great many coses are actually superior to thqee brought
from outside?
The moral is plaint Get the habit. Buy
and Use Home Product. Aid the manu-
facturer and producer with helpful advice.
By o doing you will make El Paso a manu-
facturing and producing community second
to none in the Southwest.
KraeKaJacK S. and S.
