A Hat prepared by the Kl Pato City and
county Democratic club waa aelected
name the precinct chairmen it a mee tint
or the county Democratic executlre com
mlttee held last night. The selection ai
presented by tn adherent or the club was
seconded by another and adopted without
any opposition being offered. Aalde from
a majoruy of the chairmen on the Hat.
tcattetinr of city employes and several
candidates on the El Pato City and County
Immorratlc club's ticket there were few
others in the Thirty' fourth district court
room where the session waa held.
It might have been the contact with
"square deal" that waa responsible ror the
politics) organisation a man being tome
what tpeechlest when their prearranged
plant went through without the slightest
oppositions The occasion again demon
strated the Inability or the club to make
political capital oat of nothing- It was
another market house episode.
f.lub Prepares tar Meeting.
It It a net thil the club had been pre
paring for the meeting entertaining the
far-retched idea that tba supporters or the
Citizens Democratic ticket were going to
make an errort to have the complete tayao
In the naming or the precinct chairmen.
Club members were active In notifying
others to be on hand evidently believing
that a showing might hive 111 influence.
Wednesday an executive committeeman
arrived from the valley and he was im-
mediately taken In tow and carried to the
city hall where he wat ahowered with
cigars and attention that left him mud
dled. It happened that this committee-
man would ir landed slve the political
club the majority or the executive com
mittee. Hence the Interest la him.
If It had been planned to make a show
ing by having the club out In force some-
how the 4000 claimed members disappoint-
ed the "bosses." Tba handrull or "faith-
fuls" who did gather looked lonesome in
the big court room.
Orndorrf Heidi Conference.
Just before Judge T. A. Falvey chairman
of the county executive committee called
the committee to order Beth Orndorrf val-
ley commissioner wat communing with an
executive committeeman from the lower
valley. Orndorrr appeared to be holding
serious conversation with the man from
the lower end of the county. When Judge
Falvey did rap the committee to order
Eugene Harris sat down at the table with
the committeemen.
Jack Dawson campaign manager of the
club's ticket waa on the other tide of the
railing with the "to be" chairmen and
other city employea. Dawson must have
been appointed atare manager for the occasion.
Redding Nominate Chairmen.
No sooner bad the committeemen taken
their seats at the table along with Harris
and Judge Falvey explained the purpose
or the meeting than W. K. Redding arose.
Redding took a typewritten list out or nis
pocket Judging from the type the list
mutt have been prepared In the court
boute. somewhere In the neighborhood of
the Thirty-fourth district court room. Ap-
parently Redding hid not been rebetrsed
well because In reading the Hat or names
he clearly showed unfamlllarlty with sev-
eral. Before reading the list. Redding
stated thai "he moved the ' following be
aooolnted precinct chairmen." The lilt
founded like a roll call or the El Pato City
and County Democratic club. After he
finished reading the Kit Redding Ht
down. There was alienee for tome time.
"Second the motion second the motion"
Harria tald to Sam Carr an executive com-
mitteeman from Clint. Mr. carr looked it
Harria. "Second the motion" Harria again
said to him in a good-sited stage whisper.
In the meantime Judge Falvey nad neen
waiting for the committee to show tome
signs or lire. Just about the time that be
had given up hope and the club membera
were breathing bard because they did not
know whether their "cut and unea" pi an
waa going through Mr. Carr spoke up.
"I second the motion" said Mr. Carr.
The shadows In the vast court room leaned
forward and tat back astounded when
Judge Falvey without a dissenting voice
submitted the chairmen named by the club
to the committee for adoption.
Te Notify Appointees.
Frank Williams committeeman of El
Psso. who had been appointed secretary.
took the list from Redding without a word.
He promlted to notify eacn member or nia
appointment.
Among the chairmen seieciea was juuge
J. M. Ooggln. former president or the El
Pato City and County Democratic club and
now an endorsee of that club for the fed-
eral judgeship in the event the bill or
Congressman Smith goea through creating
the new district. A. J. Hall secretary or
the club and a candidate for Justice of Ule
peace was also named. F. X. Farmer who
aa a member of the grand Jury commis-
sion helped to select the grand Jury waa
another chairman on the Hit. W. B. Ware
president or the club waa also honored
C. M. Wllchar. m ware s law office also
received recognition. J. M. Dudley of the
Kl Paso Hltulithic company was another
cbtlrmin duly recognised.
Hour Net Selected.
In spite or all the "political prepared -
neit" the Important matter of seclfylng
the hour at which the precinct meetings
shall be held waa overlooked. Aside from
getting their men appointed tba political
organisation appeared to be little con
cerned with the really Important details or
the precinct elections which meant E
Paso's representation at the Sate Demo
cratle convention held for the purpose or
appointing delegates to the St. Louis con
vention where the Democratic presidential
nominee wlU be choteo. At the matter
now atandt. It will probably be up to the
chairmen to name the hour when the pre-
cinct elections will take place. Delegates
chosen it this time will participate in the
county convention to be held on the night
or next May 8. The tute delegates will
then be selected.
Although the meeting Isst night waa
scheduled ror S o'clock It waa no minutes
