Rio Grande City CISD announces
free and reduced-price meals
RGCCISD News Release
Rio Grande City CISD today an-
nounced its policy tor providing free
and reduced-price meals for children
served at Dr. Mario Ramirez El-
ementary under the National School
Lunch Program and National School
Breakfast Program. Dr. Mario
Ramirez Elementary or the central
office has a copy of the policy, v. hich
may he reviewed by any interested
party.
The household size and income
criteria identified below w ill be used
to determine eligibility for free and
reduced-price benefits. Children
from households whose income is at
or below the levels shown are eli-
gible for free or reduced-price meals.
Foster children w ho are the legal re-
sponsibility of a welfare agency or
court may also be eligible for ben-
efits regardless of the income of the
household with whom they reside.
Eligibility for the foster child is
based on the child's income.
Application forms are being dis-
tributed to all households with a let-
ter informing households of the
availability of free and reduce-price
meals for their children. Applica-
tions also are available at the
principal's office in each school. To
apply for free and reduced-price
meals, households must fill out the
application and return it to the
school. Applications may be submit-
ted anytime during the school year.
The information eligibility and veri-
fication of data. Applications may be
verified by the school officials at any
time during the school year.
For school officials to determine
eligibility for free and reduced-price
benefits, households receiving food
stamps or Temporary Assistance for
Needy Families (TANF) only have
to list their child's name and food
stamp or TANF case number. An
adult household member must sign
the application.
Households that do not list a food
stamp or TANF case number must
list the names of all household mem-
bers, the amount and source pf the
income received by each household
member, and the Social Security
number of the adult household mem-
ber w ho signs the application. It the
adult w ho signs the application does
not have a Social Security number,
the household member must indicate
that a Social Security number is not
available by writing the word
"None." "No Number." or some in-
dication that the person does not have
a Social Security number. The appli-
cation must be signed by an adult
household member.
. Under the provisions of the free and
reduced-price meal policy, Child
Nutrition Program Director will re-
view applications and determine eli-
gibility. Parents or guardians dissat-
isfied w ith the ruling of the official
may wish to discuss the decision with
reviewing official on an informal
basis. Parents wishing to make a for-
mal appeal for a hearing on the deci-
sion may make a request either orally
or in writing to Child Nutrition Pro-
gram Director, Rio Grande City

If a household member becomes
unemployed or if the household size
increases, the household should con-
tact the school. Such changes may
make the children of the household
eligible for benefits if the

armed males and one unarmed
female."
Fuentes added in November,
"When Mr. Caro and the other
individual arrived at the residence,
they were encountered by the three
subjects, who evidently had been
waiting for them...The suspects
first approached Mr. Caro and the
other individual in the driveway."
The investigator added. "Mr. Caro
and the other victim were taken
inside the house. The robbers
ransacked the house and ran off with
numerous weapons and an
undetermined amount of cash."
Fuentes concluded in November.
"Evidence indicates Mr. Caro was
assaulted; he suffered minor
injuries."
Hernandez was arraigned in late
November 2004 before Rio Grande
City Municipal Judge Elvira Garza
and charged with one count of
aggravated robbery.
Aggravated robbery charges from
the episode are still pending against
Heriberto Isaias Mendez Gomez,
33. a Guatemalan national who had
been residing in Rio Grande City.

The Catholic Daughters of the Americas Texas State Court is pictured above holding an organizational
workshop in Houston on July 29-31 for all District Deputies, Slate Chairmen and Past State Regents. A key
purpose of the workshop is to ensure that District Deputies and State Chairmen are well prepared to carry out
the responsibilities of their offices. Past State Regents discussed ideas for increasing and retaining
membership, as well as instituting new courts.

The Catholic Daughters of the
Americas Texas State Court held
its Organizational Workshop for all
District Deputies, State Chairmen,
and Past State Regents at the Holy
Name Passionist Retreat Center ir,
Houston, July 29-31, 2005.
Carolyn Bachmann, Scotland,
First Vice State Regent, was the
chairman of the workshop. She
noted that 75 people attended the
workshop. Other members of the
State Court participating were Olga
Samaniego, El Paso, State Regent;
Sheila Martinka, Pasadena, Second
Vice State Regent; Carolyn Malik,
Shiner, State Secretary; Peggy
Rosales. Austin, State Treasurer;
Libby Ramirez, Victoria, Third
Vice National Regent; Loraine
Hilscher, Dallas, State
Parliamentarian; Rev. Donald
Ruppert, East Bernard, State Clergy
Consultant.
The workshop was designed to
ensure that District Deputies and
State Chairmen are well prepared
to undertake the duties and
responsibilities of their respective
offices. Guidelines for District
Deputies were presented, as well as
training for financial reviews,
standing rules, budget, planning
meetings, and ceremonies.
Information was presented on
protocol and spirituality.

Federal Bureau of Investigation,
Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco,
Firearms, and Explosives, United
States Border Patrol, and the Starr
County HIDTA Task Force. The
case was prosecuted by Assistant
U. S. Attorney Toni Trevino.
The trustees approved low bids
for golf supplies, boys soccer
supplies, student trainers supplies,
swimming supplies, wrestling
supplies, and La Grulla Offsite
Sanitary Sewer Improvement.
The trustees approved separate
student handbooks for the
Elementary Schools and Secondary
Schools for the 2005-2006 school
year. Villarreal indicated that both
handbooks were approved with only
minor changes from last year.
